Did you ever see something and think it meant one thing and then when you find out what it actually does mean, you're quite disappointed? Because it's not as good as what you originally imagined?

I gushed about the last few seconds of last night's SPN because I watched them out of context, before I watched the rest of the episode and I had a totally different interpretation of what Dean was doing. I really loved the melancholy music and I thought what was happening there was kind of bittersweet, with Dean thinking over his life and remembering that there had been many good times (with Bobby, with his brother, with his car etc.) but in spite of all that, the sorrow of their life and of losing so many people is what keeps breaking through. That's how I interpreted the smiling-near-tears expression on Dean's face, but after watching the episode I realize that scene was just playing off Frank's not-terribly-moving lecture, which was basically just another version of the "suck it up" shit that Dean's always getting and what can I say? SHOW disappoints me yet again.

Jensen really needs to start losing his hair and heading down the James Spader former-pretty-boy route so that I can finally stop watching this show. Alas, the man is in his thirties and shows no sign of Spadering yet. Bastard.

Since it doesn't seem to me that Jensen wants to quit the show and that TVLine thinks that the show is "a safe bet" for an eighth season I don't know if you'll get your wish.

"Spadering," LOL.

I thought it was a completely dull episode -- empty, boring, and with your standard-issue tween brat tossed in just for fun. I believe she was lifted directly out of Winsister fic I read ages ago. She saves the day when professional adult Hunter Dean freezes into place! Isn't that darling?

This is the first time my sister ever called me after the show and said, "Were you as bored as I was during that?" (Answer: yes.)

Jensen's last few seconds WERE great, though, no matter the context. He's really a very good actor.

The last scene was clearly supposed to be Dean practicing after the latest variant on the "quit whining, Princess" pep talk, but even knowing it I think you could see that Jensen was putting more thought into it than that.

Still, I'm totally with you on wishing Jensen would go off and do something else.

Edited to Add: Hey - if you leave, who on earth am I going to whine about Supernatural with? :(

I wasn't disappointed with this episode like you were - there were a lot of moments that I felt - on their own - had great merit. I thought those last few seconds just sort of capped also why I keep coming back to watch week after week. I still love the characters and I can't quit them while their on TV. Even when the show is clearly not perfect.

But maybe my BS tolerance level is just a bit higher than yours. Hehehe.

After reading your post though I had to go and look for pictures of young Spader to remind me what a cutie he was back in the day. He's also one of the actors that I practically watch anything he's in just cuz he's so good. :-) As a result I now have a craving to watch Pretty in Pink or The Secretary again. Hee!!

Congratulations on the army of haters. It means you're being read-- as you should be. You have an engaging, entertaining style that I find a pleasure to read.

I wouldn't be too put off by the negative things people say. Too many small minds like to snipe behind the safe mask of an internet ID. I'm glad LJ didn't alert you, and I don't think you should read the negative stuff anyway. I ended up on fandom wank one time-- lots of people having a go at Devoted. I popped in to learn I was sick and obsessed with blood and sex and blah blah blah. I had a great English teacher who said, "There's no defense for your writing"-- meaning it must stand on its own. So I knew in advance I wasn't going to respond.

But, as I read through the thread, I was surprised to see a vigorous defense being mounted on my behalf-- people I didn't even know. Names who'd never commented on the story, telling these naysayers to get lost. I thought, "Huh! The system works!"

I know people love to slap labels on each other-- you listed half a dozen in your post. I'd just encourage you to try to avoid slapping a label on yourself. You're too complex for a label-- everyone is. Just enjoy what you do and rise above the nippy ill-spirited attacks as best you can. Best wishes.

Thank you

Hi Oselle. I'm a lurker, but I hope you don't mind me popping in (to an earlier post, no less!) to say that I'm sorry to see you go. Your commentary on SPN eps have always been sharp and entertaining, and your fic... wow. I came to your writing from "Lazarus Came Forth" and I think your work is phenomenal. I'm a Sam&Dean OTP at heart, but you're one of very few authors who can fully convince me of Dean/Cas(s) in writing. So thanks for broadening my horizons, I guess. =) And congratulations on making a definitive choice for yourself. Thank you, and best wishes in the future!!

Another lurker, with the occasional comment. I have enjoyed your comments, and your take on Supernatural, for a few months now..and have been constantly checking your LJ since episode 9 hoping for something new. I was thrilled to see you back, only to discover that you are leaving. :( I really hope you reconsider, and don't let the haters get you down. I've noticed a blanket of rage from the Sam fans these last few days because of the story direction this season (not enough Sam Hell pain) and so anything or anyone who shows a prefernce to Dean is being routinely bashed or targeted - this could be linked. Just see the comments underneath the promo for this friday's episode either on SpoilerTV or on You Tube. Considering these comments are coming from the same Sam fans who told us Dean fans to suck it up when everything was The Passion of Sam last year, makes me lol.

I saw your post before this but I didn't read it then because I hadn't seen the episode yet. Then I watched the episode and I wondered why you seemed to like it ( from your lj-cut that is ) because I found it a bit flat. Not outright bad, just slightly on the dull side. But as you said, Jensen is Jensen and I'm watching the show as long as he's still there!

And I just read your latest two posts. I'm going to miss you big time and I hope we'll get to see lots and lots of pics of your cat and I still hope you won't quit LJ just yet. For every hater there're hundreds of Oselle-fans *nods*
