Some great reading for you tonight:

I've been struggling to express my discomfort with what happened during Ahmadinejad's visit to New York this week. Hard to find the words but I kept thinking that America, and New York, used to have a certain amount of dignity. And something called class. Even when we were dealing with people or nations that repelled us, we took the high road. Guess we couldn't expect to hold onto that when our own president is a guy whose idea of well-reasoned foreign policy analysis in the midst of a disastrous war is "we're kickin' ass!" Can you imagine Lincoln saying something like that? Or FDR? Or Eisenhower? Anyway this guy pretty much says what I would have if I were this articulate.

Whoa, that was pretty serious. Well, this next thing is, too. You may think it's funny, but the sad thing is how bloody true it all is. I give you: The Very Secret Diary of America

OMG, that diary was so true. It's like America's going through its adolescence and the world has to pay.

I've been so hating the headlines this week. Sometimes the in your face headlines are funny when they're appropriate, but this stuff with Ahmadinejad is just not--and it's very indicative of the attitude in general.

I don't even know what the fuck those headlines were supposed to prove. And as far as not letting the guy visit Ground Zero -- we let that Saudi prince visit just a few weeks after the attack and how many of the hijackers were from his frigging country? What empty, offensive, embarrassing, pissy posturing.

That Very Secret Diary is marvellous. The spirit of modern America as a pouting Valley Girl.

27 September 2001:

P.S. I was totally in a horrible mood today. Only Britain sat with me at lunch. I know I keep saying I'm through with him. He is such a LITTLE BOY, but at least he has good taste in ME! Told him I'd go with him to the Group of Eight summit next week. You should have seen how happy he was. Pathetic.

ROFL, that's quite an accurate summary of the Blair/Bush love-in. :p

Oh lordy, there was such a weird dynamic between those two. I don't think Gordon Brown is quite as infatuated.

That very secret diary is pricelessly funny and horrifyingly accurate.

BTW, did you see GW Bush giving his speech about education? The one where he said, "Childrens do learn"? Sadly, presidents apparently do not.

If Bush were a great leader who spouted the occasional linguistic gaffe, it'd be kind of charming. Sadly, he is...not.
