If you are disturbed by images of dead infants, please don't click on this link.

Winning hearts and minds.

I can still recall being at an LoTR gathering in Vermont in the summer of 2002 and hearing one of my fellow "Frodo's Haremites" (and a very starry-eyed, hippie-dippie gal she was, too) proudly exclaiming to an anti-war leafleter that she hoped we would "bomb the snot out of them."

I think this kid got way more than the snot bombed out of him, don't you?

Here's some reading matter to go with the pic, from the great Glenn Greenwald.

It's always, always the children that gets to you most, be it war or natural disaster :(

Sobering, horrifying ... :(

This is going to sound absolutely dreadful but I am almost desesentised to such images ... for some reason I am thinking of the children killed in the Omagh bombing in Northern Ireland (ten years ago this August).

However, I was pretty disgusted with Hillary Clinton two weeks ago for saying that the US would nuke Iran to kingdom come if Iran ever attacked Israel (assuming the Iranian powers-that-be would ever be that monumentally stupid, of course). Thanks for that, Hillary. Not. What was that about? To prove that Democrats can be just as hawkish as Republicans, that a woman can be just as much of a warmonger as a man?

Pppphhhffttt.

Mind you, Margaret Thatcher never backed down from a fight. She gave no quarter to the IRA and oversaw a war herself.

But the nuclear issue is another thing entirely. I am not a pacifist: although I rarely (if ever) think war is moral or justified, I would have fought for my country against Hitler. And actually I am supportive of the action against the Taliban in Afghanistan. But I sure am a NUCLEAR pacifist though. No use of those monstrous weapons, EVER, no matter what the provocation.

I don't like Hillary (TM!) too much, as a person, but she's absolutely right about universal health care, of course. :)

Yes, because this country's deranged. Our press and the Republican operatives that seem to control it have long suggested that all Democrats are effeminate and "soft" on things like crime and terror, so Hillary is saying shit like that to prove that she has...balls or something.

Meanwhile, that asshole McCain was again saying that Hillary and Obama want to institute national healthcare "like Canada and England" which a) isn't true and b) WOULD BE FUCKING GREAT IF IT WERE TRUE and I don't understand why no one asks McCain, point blank, "What's so bad about Canada and England?" I don't hear about people dying in record numbers in those countries because of their primitive healthcare and I don't hear about people living in abject poverty because they have to pay such high taxes for national healthcare. He's a fucking bald-faced liar and I sure wish someone in the mainstream media would call him out on it, if for no other reason than so that I could watch him stammer and squirm.

I read somewhere that if Americans could see what's happening to civilians in Iraq every day, the war would be over tomorrow. I don't know about that. We're pretty good at tuning things out over here.
