Okay so it's 11:30 at night and I'm sitting here watching the "Pollo Loco" episode of Dark Angel Season One, which of course, was Jensen Ackles' first foray into primetime gorgeousness.

I've commented about this episode at great length elsewhere but let's just talk about Jensen. I'd say he's about as good-looking right now as he's ever going to be, in fact I'd say he's at that perfect age right between youth and maturity where some people are fortunate enough to move beyond being merely attractive and actually achieve real beauty.

But damn...at his Dark Angel age he was so, so pretty. He was not only pretty he was so boyish and so slender, he was almost...delicate. Which is certainly not a word I'd use to describe him now and I love the way he looks now but wow. He was such a doll at that age, just a rosy porcelain doll and it was so fleeting -- by Season Two of Dark Angel he was still crazy-gorgeous but he was a year older and had already shed some of that delicate prettiness. By the time he was on Smallville it was mostly gone, though even now you can still catch tiny little glimpses of it. But if you really want to see that bloom on the rose, "Pollo Loco" is the place to go.

Season One is usually available used on Amazon for very little cash and if you're into Jensen Ackles at all, I highly, highly recommend snagging a copy, just for this episode. I don't think it's available anywhere for download.

I know what you mean, although I think Jensen looked his best in The Berrisford Agenda. Man, he can pull off the bespectacled musical genius look. And he be so pretty when he's brokeded! *Points at icon*

One thing I wouldn't recommend Jensen fans to watch, is his stint on Dawson's Creek. For one, well it's freakin' Dawson's Creek, and for another, it proves that really weird hair can ruin even the best eyecandy. (Seriously, what was up with the hair?)

I thoroughly agree with you about both "The Berrisford Agenda" and Dawson's Creek. DC is just a painfully annoying show and you just want to slap the shit out of everyone one it. Especially when they have weird hair -- which EVERYONE on that show seems to have!!! It must have been a casting requirement: you will maintain an inexplicably unflattering hairstyle for the duration of your contract with Dawson's Creek. He also was going through a chubby face phase at that period and it's a CRIME to take the edges off that impeccable bone structure of his.

I think I've seen a glimpse of it. But I only have complete Season 2 and not Season 1. :( I hope I can find the clips in dean_sam. :)

Perfection indeed.

I read this last night and I wanted to tell you...I think that a large part of the "bulk" that he displays on SPN is created by costume and the shooting style. Two summers ago I went to see his performance in "A Few Good Men" in Dallas, and I really thought he looked more long and lean than muscled. I thought his hands looked kind of long and delicate. He was very trim in his uniform. It wasn't that he looked frail, but he didn't have even the slightest suggestion of stockiness. I think they create that effect by costuming him in three or four shirts! And his butch haircut makes his features appear slightly larger, although they can't quite hide those doe-eyes!

I've also thought he looks smaller in photos out of costume. Broad-shouldered, yes, but not huge and bulky. Little waist, little butt. Perfect skin...eyelashes...mouth...

In a word, Perfect.

Fort Worth, actually.
I don't regret going, but I'll tell you, the whole thing whipped right by so that it barely felt real.

And I'm actually closer to Ft. Worth than Dallas. *kicks self* Ah well, maybe some other time...

If he hadn't pulled out of the SPN con that came to Dallas in June, I would've gawked looked at him there. ;-)

I agree with the costuming bulk and I think a lot of that is done to size him up in comparison with Jared's ginormous stature. They can't make Jensen taller so they make him...wider.

All the same, he's definitely bigger and broader now than he was back then. He sure didn't have arms like this:

But he's still got that lovely tapered waist and yes, I've noticed how pretty his hands are. He seems to take ridiculously good care of his nails, too, and I always laugh whenever they have a closeup of his hands in Supernatural because he's beautifully manicured and that's so out of keeping with Dean's character and line of work!

And ETA, I don't think Jensen's naturally this bulked up and I'll bet when he's not filming SPN he doesn't work out as much and looks more slightly built. Also...I've never seen an actor in real life who didn't look a lot smaller than they do onscreen! That camera really does add 10 pounds, 10 pounds of muscle in Jensen's case!

Dark Angel S1 is an indulgence but S2 is a must-have for anyone who likes Jensen Ackles! They're ridiculously priced if you buy them new but you can get both used on Amazon for a really good price.

Yes, he is naturally lithe. And I've thought the same thing a) about his hands being so ridiculously clean and well-kempt. Not in character for sure! and b) about the camera adding muscle!

For some reason I think it was in "No Exit" where they had a closeup of Dean's hand on a doorknob and his nails were so glossy they must have been buffed. I noticed the same thing in "No Rest for the Wicked," there's a really quick shot where he slams the book closed after having that hellhound nightmare and his nails are just manicurist perfect. I think that's why I loved all those scrapes on his knuckles in "In My Time of Dying" because we never see his hands messed up and really, we should!

he is naturally lithe

*sweats*

Have you seen his pics taken with fans on set of MBV? He's bloody skinny!

No, I've avoided those pix. I just...I can't start following Jensen's career. It was tiring enough doing that with Elijah Wood.
