This is what I took away from that episode:

1) Jesus Christ, Jensen Ackles with no shirt on is lethal. That was hot beyond hot. That scene will launch a jillion icons. I'm actually glad they doused it with that corny Titanic-inspired hand-on-the-car-window bit at the end because...phew. I hear spontaneous combustion is a really ugly way to go. Close one, there.

2) Jesus Christ, Jensen Ackles cries beautifully.

Other than that I have no idea what that episode was about. Or what any of it meant. What?

Anyone want to take a crack at explaining it? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

ETA: When SPN goes off the air, can Castiel get a spinoff? No, really. Castiel suffers almost as beautifully as Dean.

I CRIED. I cried with him! I dunno! I'm weak, and he is so stupendously redonkulously beautiful EVEN WHEN HE CRIES, I just. I CRIED! DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAANNNNNN!

AGREED ON ALL POINTS.

TITANIC SAVED MY OVARIES FROM CERTAIN DESTRUCTION

His back is a work of art. When he sort of twisted to one side? Good lord, I just . . . *jaw-drop.*

And the last scene was heart-rending. He's a damn-fine actor, along with being lethally beautiful.

I just posted my reactions. And then I came here and find out that we are one in regards to this ep. My overall feeling was "Huh?"

But Dean crying - eeeeeee! Why the HELL did Sam not hug him? Whassa matter with the big lug?

You summarized my feelings exactly...especially about the bad reference to the Titanic...I was definitely about to blow (Dean, no t-shirt...man, even just thinking about it now...)

And the tears at the end just broke my heart. I just want to hold him tight and tell him everything will be ok! (even though all we can do now is wait and see where Kripke leads us, cause I sure as hell can't figure it out...I mean I could not even figure out a simple thing like...was Anna's disobedience the fact that she cut her grace out, or did she cut it after she had already disobeyed, to prevent being killed?) Too many thinky thoughts - I am going back to just picturing Dean in the back of Impala :)

Thank goodness for Dean's back and Dean's tears. And Castiel.

1. Sam, I love you, but sometimes you're a complete moron.

2. nghasaslkdjf DEAN. And me a Sam girl and all. Again, I'd love to be witty and/or eloquent, but my brain has melted.

3. How disturbing/wrong/just plain kinky is it that I found the whole NewBody!Ruby in the leather straps bit gorgeous? Aside from the torture bit, I mean.

I think this episode is about 'free will.
God created humans and granted us free will, angels only have obedience. I think the angels might be a little jealous.
Sam,Dean,Anna and Ruby worked together and outsmarted both angels and demons. I think the fact that they were willing to work together totally confused both angels and demons.
I don't think we've seen the last of Castiel,Uriel, or Alistair.
The final comment about Anna leads me to wonder if she made it back to heaven.

The final scene had me in tears.. Jensen pulled it off beautifully. He had out as long as he could, if you remember what Ruby told him(jeez I can't remember the episode title), that when he'd been in hell awhile he'd change, if he hadn't been pulled out her prophecy would have come true!! How scary is that.
Now I wonder how John was changed,if at all.
