Two for the Road
Apr. 28th, 2009 08:50 pmSo you've been sitting there thinking Oselle, I really want to get in on all the spectacular Dean-whump and angst of your psychotically long AU apocafic, Lazarus Came Forth but seriously, Oselle, reading is so 20th century! Or maybe you just want your apocalptic whumpage and picturesque manpain in a portable version that you can enjoy on the go?
Well, lucky for you folks Lazarus Came Forth is now available as not ONE but TWO podfics, so you can not only listen to the story, but listen to your choice of two versions! Is this customer service over here or what!?
First up is
twasadark who's probably already known to many of you as an expert in the podficcing arts. Her reputation is well-earned. Please Click here for her excellent adaptation.
Then we have
baylorsr who's well known to me as the person who keeps ruining my life. Did I tell you how I had walking pneumonia in January and she still made me sleep in a dark, cold basement when I visited her? No? I'll have to share the horror with you sometime. Clearly racked with guilt for her many offenses against me,
baylorsr attempted to redeem herself by surprising me with a boxed set of her own podfic of Lazarus Came Forth, which I enjoyed so much I wanted to share it with the rest of you. Click here for links to the podfic along with artwork and custom soundtrack.
In all honesty, when
twasadark first approached me about podficcing the story, I was skeptical of the whole format -- why listen to something when you can read it? But after listening to and greatly enjoying both of these versions, I totally get it. Between writing this story and editing and proofing it a dozen times, I practically know this story by heart, but hearing it read out loud somehow transformed it into a whole different experience. In fact, there were passages that I seemed to be hearing for the very first time, that's how different it is. PLUS, you have the convenience of being able to enjoy the story while you do other things! It's totally awesome and I'm an absolute podfic believer now.
I owe a heartfelt thanks to both
twasadark and
baylorsr. This is a very long story and one that's filled with lengthy and sometimes under-punctuated blocks of narration -- not exactly the easiest thing to read out loud. They both put a tremendous amount of thought and effort into producing spoken adaptations of this story for our enjoyment and I'm enormously honored by their hard work. Whether you enjoy podfics or have never checked one out before, I encourage you to listen to either one (or both!) of these versions and please share your appreciation with the creators.
ETA:
cybel has also created awesome cover artwork for
twasadark's podfic, here at the Supernatural Gen Podfics community. Great thanks to her as well!
