this *one-sided* romantic/sexual love is exactly how I imagine it to be between them in canon.
A friend recently told me that she had read an interview with Misha Collins in which he said that he'd decided to play Castiel in Season 5 as if he were in love with Dean. I don't know if Misha was kidding, but as far as what I'm seeing on the screen...he wasn't. Castiel is great fun to write as this romantic character because he's really neither a man nor a woman so you can really throw any sort of gender issues out the window and just write about someone who's in love and doesn't know what to do about it.
