Is this the new plan, something that came out when Sera was named showrunner? Because everything I'd heard up until now said that the plan was to go back to a straightforward, Season One MoTW format...
Kripke et. al. have stated a few times about going more "intimate", like season one, but haven't said specifically that they were going back to straight MOTW - which, I think most fans agree wouldn't really work. But it was Kripke who said there would be a season six arc - not as big as the Apocalypse (though some would argue that hasn't shaken out to be so big after all), but there would be one specific thing they were doing or looking for throughout the year.
Since Kripke and Singer are still going to be hands on, and Kripke is just dumping the day to day stuff on Sera's head, I think whatever story they've been fleshing out is going forward now - and, again, Sera and Kripke have both stated they've been working on season six story lines already, which may be obvious the way season five is playing out with possibly not as much attention to this year's story as we'd expect after such a strong season four.
