while Dean has at times accused Sam of being selfish, it was always in relation to their father or to the "family business" -- never directly in relation to himself. I think this is the first time Dean's ever called Sam out on the way Sam has hurt him. Gosh--you're right! I hope that means Dean is learning to speak up for himself--defend himself.
I've also been surprised that Dabb and Loflin's eps have been getting better and better (I liked "Sam, Interrupted," too--though obviously it wasn't as good as this one). It's kind of inspiring--to see so much improvement.
And yeah, it was like really good fanfic. Have you read debbiel66's "We Mortals Be"? In it, S5 Sam and Dean meet their younger selves (engineered by evil fairies)--it's a really touching piece (much more than the evil fairies premise would suggest). Seeing present day!Dean with young!Sam was just like that--only better, because of Jensen's amazing face.
