I planned a whole route for us, just in case you grew some balls and wanted to venture into the city. We can take 94 east to Outer Drive, then take that through Downriver to West Jefferson and take that north, past the train station and bridge, then right downtown where we can grab lunch. Then we can take Woodward through downtown, past the museums and the libraries and hop back on a highway from there. It can be your own personal best-and-worst of Detroit tour.
I drove through a bunch of serious, Baghdad-resembling ghetto, by myself, just this week with no problems. It's going to be broad daylight, and we'll stay in the car. I promise, I won't go into any crawlspaces.
