I genuinely enjoyed that, in spite of the high body count.

Actually, I think I enjoyed that because of the high body count. I'm not sure why Rufus had to die, but I think Gwen and Samuel were deliberately killed off to rid us once and for all of Sera Gamble's whole Campbell storyarc. I'm pretty certain that we'll never get any explanation of what Gramps thought he'd do when he got Mary "back," nor will we ever find out how Not-Sam ever hooked up with the Campbells, nor why this whole clan of supposed uber-hunters has been out of the picture for Sam and Dean's entire lives (not to mention AWOL during the past five years of looming apocalypse)...but you know what? I don't care. I never liked the Campbells in the story, they always felt out of place and poorly thought-out, and I'm glad they're gone. Let's move on.

In fact, I feel like that's exactly what the past two episodes have been -- moving on. Last week we had a surreal comedy episode that nonetheless delivered a message that's been sorely lacking from this show for a long time: that the Winchesters' calling has great value, even when stacked against far more attractive alternatives, and that their bond with each other is the one thing that they will always come back to, no matter what. Each is the other's true north. This week, the "clean slate" message was not only obvious in the elimination of the Campbells, it was literally written into the script.

It's a little late for Season Six to finally get started but hey...better late than never.

And yay, six weeks of hiatus! Maybe now I can finally finish my fic instead of talking about this damn show ALL THE TIME!!

I was getting bit flashbacks to The Faculty, which was all about mind-controlling parasites that get into a person through their ears. Plus all the black goo reminded me of The X-Files.

Well, I guess a little late is better than nothing.

Although, doesn't that mean that half of the season was for nothing though? What a waste!

Gwen was okay but the Campbells just had to go. Now if they can clean up this "Mother" storyline as efficiently, we may actually stand a chance at a decent seventh season.

Actually it means that MORE than half of the season was for nothing, but I still have a warm fuzzy feeling from last week, so if they can come back from hiatus and serve up six good episodes, I'll be fairly content.

This stupid show. I just can't quit it.

she could have just defected from 'gramps' and gone on a road trip with the boys..or...hooked up with rufus, or would that have been to complicated for the show to handle... but yeah the soup clan needed to be over and done with...but what was the point? what did they bring to the show except incoherency and bogus so called family ties and so called hunter expertise, all more holey than swiss cheese...

and the mother of all has been...i mean...um...its almost like who cares, and why is she even aware of the winchesters, why does she even CARE about them? its...so...uninspired and tired and did you ever see that star trek ep with the mind worms...

"This stupid show. I just can't quit it."

THIS.

I loathed the whole Campbell storyline but was actually starting to like Gwen. For all their talk about family they sure do kill a lot of them off.

I want more Cas!

Is he the next they plan to kill? They better not!

Yay, for badass Dean!

As for the plot - sigh, is there one?

With the guys testing for parasites, I was remembering the Carpenter remake of The Thing, with Kurt Russell testing blood with a hot wire. Otherwise...I'm apparently in the minority, as I was fairly MEH about the episode, I couldn't even get really upset about the death of Rufus. Didn't even blink over the sudden Samuel death either. With each new episode of this season, I'm really wishing they had simply ended with the fifth season after all, and gone out with an emotionally charged bang.

The title gave me time to brace myself though so at least I'm not too much in mourning. But when Dean shot Gwen I was still shocked. I still enjoyed it, though! :-) Lots of awesome moments all around.

<wildly rushes to the DVD player to catch up on the episodes I swore I wouldn't watch until the show got its shit together . . .

LOL, you only have to watch last week's and this week's. I really think that all previous 14 episodes are just going to get Eternal Sunshine'd out of existence.

I was shocked too, but by the end I just felt like they were just whacking characters who hadn't worked so they could rid themselves of the entire storyline. Still not sure why Rufus had to go, though.

Yeah, they pretty much blew any chance of an emotionally charged bang with the way they ended Season 5. Since that essentially WAS the series finale, I don't know what they're going to do for the eventual real one.

How would you kill Cas anyway? Even when he goes kablooie into a million little bits he just comes back five minutes later!

I actually thought they might have finished off Bobby for real. I guess I'm glad they didn't. I don't mind Bobby in small doses.

There's usually 22 eps per season, so I'm assuming that means there are six left. The season usually does wrap up in mid-May so May 12 sounds about right.

I liked this week's episode, too. I wish there wasn't another long hiatus, though. Way to kill your good momentum, Show.

The "goo check" cracked me up, as did Bobby pouring one for his homey there at the end. :D
