LJ Trouble?

Is anyone else having a really hard time with LJ for the past two days? I can hardly get in. On Firefox, it keeps timing out when it loads, and on IE I can't get in at all. My Friends page looks fine, but my own homepage is all screwy, with the side navigation bar missing and it'll only show my last five posts and there's not even a "Previous 10" or "Next 10" link at the bottom of the page. To get here, I had to go through the comments notification on Yahoo. Please tell me someone else is having trouble and it's not something wrong with my firewall or something because I have no idea how to fix that!

i have no idea, i've never seen that weird black dotted line around any of my comments before. new worlds being explored here...now we know a taste of what the rest of the world faces trying to blog about their countries...i never expected it here...

Distributed Denial of Service attack, in which there's a concerted attempt to overwhelm a site by overloading with demand. Various sites have been attacked in this way, including Yahoo and LJ.

I'm uploading my stuff to AO3 as I speak… I have this [probably totally unfounded] paranoia that one of these hackers will wipe LJ totally. I tweak quite a bit on an ongoing basis, so if that happened I'd lose all the most up-to-date versions of my fic. God, I'm in a cold sweat just thinking about it. Let me know if you do decide to go to Dreamwidth as I have an invite code that will save you having to pay to create an account. ;-) I haven't uploaded anything to DW yet. Ao3 is very time consuming because a lot of my stuff is over 100K words. I don't know if DW is any easier… :/

I have a Dreamwidth account, I just never use it. The thought that LJ could be wiped out is not exactly paranoid considering it's been a week since the DDoS attack and the site's still not functioning at 100%. It's obviously pretty vulnerable. Honestly, I feel like between financial problems and hacker attacks and constant changing-of-ownership, LJ has been teetering on the brink for years. I need to make serious backups of all my fics because like you, I only have the final versions of ALL of my fics here, and nowhere else. And it would be just as devastating to lose the comments on those fics, and all of my SPN episode reviews and....ugh, I can't even bear to think about it!

Just coming back to say I highly rec Dreamwidth: it has an option to automatically import all your LJ entries [including any privacy settings so that anything carried over that is flocked remains flocked]... I've just done it and it does literally "mirror" everything you have on your LJ. If you click on "organize" in the bar along the top, you'll see "import content" in the list, and that takes you to an option to choose what you want to import. And then it does all the work. :-D

Might be a good idea to sort it while LJ is up!

No, it really is simple! That said I'm re-importing because for some reason it didn't import my comments and like you I'd like them archived somewhere since they're good for the self-esteem! Unfortunately their importer doesn't give you the option of just reimporting the bits it failed on first time [and from what I'm told it is unusual for it not to work perfectly so I can only imagine LJ itself went down during the process] so it's redoing the whole shebang.
