Fallback

I'm sorry, but LJ is a disaster. I greatly appreciate how hard they're working to get the site back up and running, but this is the second major breakdown this year and I'm starting to feel like it's only a matter of time. I don't know how much I trust "volunteer supported" Dreamwidth to stick around in the long term, and part of me suspects Dreamwidth would not be able to handle a mass exodus from LJ, but wow, I really need a fallback and this seems to be the only game in town.

If you decide to create a dreamwidth account, I am "candroid" there. I also mentioned some other places you can find me in my most recent (as of the writing of this comment) lj entry. :)

Sadly, I agree with you! Two attacks in one year is a bit much and you would think that after the first one, they would have taken steps to avoid a second one especially since it sounds like this may happen again.

And Dreamwidth is okay but I don't care for this invite only thing they have. It's just so cliguey.

I'm mews1945 on Dreamwidth. It's nice to have a back up journal when LJ goes down.

Yeah, DW is definitely my back-up plan (I'm yourtinseltinkerbell over there, btw). And, you know, you can import everything from your LJ to DW -- entries, comments, tags, icons, which is much appreciated, to be sure. :)

DW is my backup too, I just mirror everything over there right now. I still prefer LJ, but yeah, I'm worried that it's only a matter of time too.

I keep meaning to look into the importing thing. People tell me it's very easy.

I don't know what the fandom community will do without LJ. I still remember what a blow it was to my corner of LoTR fandom when our message board gave up the ghost.

It is. And I'm starting to see more people crossposting over there.

I don't know what is up with the invitation-only thing, but it may be that they don't have the bandwidth to handle a big influx, so they're trying to keep the population small for now.

I already have a Dreamwidth account -- I'm just Oselle there too (I reserved the name two years ago and never used it!)

I'm on DW too. Just as a backup for now. Not even bothering to cross-post.
