Sep. 6th, 2007 08:05 pmI've been meaning to do this post for a long time, but have been backing off from it because I don't want to talk about serious things all that much. But we're five days away from the sixth anniversary of September 11 and I figure now is as good a time as any.
I read a lot of blogs that some might call "liberal," but I prefer to call them "realistic." These days, it's pretty much only in blogs (and a very few television programs) that you'll get anything remotely close to the truth about what's been going on for the past six years. So often, I want to put up a link to some particularly great article, but there are so many that I wouldn't even know what to recommend first. So instead, I'll recommend some of my favorite sites. They are definitely worth checking out every day.
Start with Crooks and Liars, which presents a must-read daily roundup of the best in both blogs and mainstream media. From today's edition, I especially recommend reading this article from Vanity Fair, which chronicles how American journalists in 2000 morphed into bitchy high-school girls to giggle and smirk about how Al Gore just wasn't cool enough to be president. We've been living (and dying) with the guy who supposedly was cool enough ever since.
On Digby's Hullabaloo, you'll find impassioned, pull-no-punches essays from someone with a staggering knowledge of politics and history. This one isn't for the faint of heart. If you have even one atom of sympathy or respect for George W. Bush, you'll probably want to pass this one by.
The terrific Firedoglake was recently smeared as a "foul-mouthed femblog." That alone would recommend it, but in truth, it's neither foul-mouthed nor does it cover particularly "feminist" issues. What it does offer is some of the most up-to-the-minute coverage of politics -- so good that mainstream media outlets rely on their live-blogging of key Washington hearings for their own reports. From Scooter Libby to Alberto Gonzales, these folks are always right on top of whatever's going on.
That's that. It's 20 minutes to Supernatural and I'm ready for my weekly dose of Dean Winchester ass-kicking. So we now return to your regularly scheduled Oselle, already in progress.
