Very random thoughts:

1) A Charlie Brown Christmas is still the best thing ever put on television. I'm probably on my fortieth viewing of this and it just never, ever gets old, and I still turn to mush when Linus reads the nativity story and the gang starts singing Hark the Herald Angels. "God and sinners reconciled." What a lovely thought.

2) Boy am I getting bored and annoyed by comparisons between Supernatural and the collective works of Joss Whedon. I know Whedon has legions of fans but I've always been in the "I don't get it" category when it comes to his stuff, whether it's Buffy, Angel or Firefly. I could never get into his characters and his constant use of comic relief always kicked me out of the mood. There are a lot of elements of Whedonverse that I don't want to see in SPN -- the humor, the ensemble casting, the mega-apocalyptic story arcs. I've always thought SPN owed a lot more to The X-Files than anything by Whedon. Sorry to all you Whedon fans, but my mileage REALLY varies on this one.

3) I love Dean's bow-leggedness and the fact that he's shorter than Sam. I love that Jensen Ackles is bulked up for this role and wears so many layers of clothing that he just looks like a tank sometimes, like a pit bull, especially next to Sam's lankiness. I love that he's so pretty that I sometimes burst out laughing over how pretty he is. A pretty, pretty pit bull.

That's all.

*shrugs* I tend to compare Supernatural with Buffy because: a) it's the closest thing fandom-wise that I've been into; and b) a lot of the time when the writers get it wrong I get the feeling that they think they're writing for the latter rather than the former.

PS: Dean is a pretty pit bull and Sam is a yak :)

Yes, that is the problem that I have -- the show (IMO) started out very different from Whedonverse and now those Whedon elements (that, personally, I don't like) seem to be creeping into it. I'm not entirely sure why the SPN producers would go that route (if, in fact, they're doing so consciously). Buffy and Angel had huge fanbases but they were never exactly ratings sensations, with Buffy eventually getting canceled by the (former) WB and picked up by (the former) UPN. Firefly was canceled after a handful of episodes. However passionate the fandom, I wouldn't necessarily use Whedon's work as the template for a successful series.

SPN needs to be its own show. I don't care what Joss Whedon did in Buffy or what Angel character was a model for anyone on SPN.

I thought Sam was a Sasquatch? Or is it Yeti?

Yay! I take it you watched Charlie Brown tonight then. I persuaded my roomies to do so with me. I like that show. It's no Grinch, but it's a pretty close second. I have a whole bunch of shows mapped out to watch this month, including Rudolph, Frosty, and A Christmas Story. Plus the Queen's speech on Christmas Day!

I love the Grinch, but Charlie Brown totally trumps him for sheer shmoop-factor.

He IS pretty, huh? Although I don't know if I'd call Sam lanky, really... I was watching 'Heart' again the other night, remember that episode, that SCENE? I'm not a Sam fan but... *dies*

I think anyone pushing...what six-foot-seven? Can be described as lanky! At least, he looks terrifically lanky next to his pit-bull brother!

I always compare SPN to X-Files in my mind. It has the same dark base and the mythos behind their hunt for demons. Jensen as a pit bull? yeah, that fits. And Jared's a wolfhound puppy.

I'd hate to think of SPN being more Whedon-esque (never got into his shows either). Not that I have a problem with Whedon shows existing at all, of course, but SPN always seems like XF2 to me. Granted, that show had its own problems, especially at the end, but I definitely think it has more the right feeling than Whedon's shows for SPN.

p.s. Light-th please!

Nah, you're not getting stupid. It's just hard to do a Linus imitation in writing! It was supposed to be him saying, "Lights please!" before he does his Christmas reading.:-)
