I'm watching a rerun of Gilmore Girls and Sam Winchester, having improbably adopted his older brother's name, is wearing white tie and tails and escorting his girlfriend to the debutante ball. I'm struck again by how Sam and Dean's pre-hunting careers were such polar opposites. While Sam was going to deb balls in the WASPish parlors of Connecticut, Dean was getting electrocuted in Chinese prisons. There's an AU crossover in here somewhere...

Did I mention the sheer brilliance of the classic '70s-style "Special Presentation" graphic that played before "A Very Supernatural Christmas?" It was so unexpected that I thought I was having a drunk hallucination. I'm old enough to remember when these graphics aired before every Christmas special (such as Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer) and doofy enough to recall how dreadfully exciting my six-year-old self found them -- it's SPECIAL!!! Kripke et al are obviously products of the same generation.

Was there anything more delightful than Dean unwrapping his gifts at the end? He was so happy over so little...oh, DEAN. And the Impala dusted with snow and reflecting Christmas lights? Oh...CAR. And "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas," quite possibly the most bittersweet Christmas song of them all? Oh...ROSEMARY CLOONEY!

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- when this show gets it right, it's so very, very right.

I missed the first minute of the show, so I didn't see that, but I have it on my hard drive and I'm going to watch it later. It really was so well done, wasn't it? We got flashbacks to wee Sam and Dean that were just wrenching, and the two of them being their snarky selves in the present, and the Evil Clauses torturing the poor babies, but getting their just desserts, so that was good. And those gifts they gave each other were just perfect. I was thinking, those are the first real Christmas gifts they've had since before their mom died, and I got all choked up. Everything about the episode was so right, especially that fade-out, looking in at the two of them through the window and the little lights shining on the car and snow falling.

It just made me think of really great fanfic, the sort that you read over and over again. Perfect.

Yes, it's definitely "No Exit," right after Jo asks Dean for a memory of his father. JA has a remarkable ability to turn into an insecure kid at a moment's notice. He looks all of twelve years old when he bites his lip like that. ADORABLE. And such fun to watch in slow motion.

Slow-mo'ing these episodes is one of my favorite hobbies. That's why I can only watch one at a time.

*stalks you*

:)

Apparently Dean Winchester Forrester is too busy playing normal that he doesn't realize his brother gets electrocuted. :)

I don't think I ever knew that his last name was "Forrester" on that show. I suppose one could reason that having to tolerate Rory Gilmore's endless motormouth and then getting dumped by her TWICE for a Fonzie wannabe AND a loathsome trustfund kid is not much better than getting tortured in a Chinese prison. Given a choice I think I might take the latter.
