Christ, Heath Ledger.

I don't understand at all. Someone young, talented, with great potential. He had a two-year-old daughter for crying out loud. WTF did he have to take pills over? I mean, you never know what's going on in someone's head but...I just don't understand this.

I don't know either. He was an extraordinary actor who was only beginning to show what he could really do. Humans can be so fragile, and no one ever really knows what pain another person is suffering.

It's horrifying. My heart goes out to his family. People can suffer for all kinds of reasons and you'd never know from the outside.

I was utterly shocked when I heard. I thought they must have gotten it wrong. I felt the same way when River Phoenix died.

Ditto to all the above. I didn't follow his career closely, but he impressed me in everything he was in. Sorry for him... and though it doesn't make sense, I'm also mad at him!

The NYPD has said they have no reason at this time to believe it was suicide. They're also saying that he had pneumonia. So the whole thing might just be an awful accident. Doesn't make it much better, but still.

Perhaps his heart couldn't take anymore chemical substances. That's why medicines are dangerous. :(

I never even got the impression that he had any sort of problem. He was so low-key. When he was living in Brooklyn with Michelle Williams they lived like such ordinary people. There were always "sightings" of them but there was never anything scandalous to report.

He actually had a problem with insomnia, that's why he took sleeping pills. This one was most probably an accident. That's what I heard.

If he had bad enough insomnia -- that can really mess you up. You'll take anything to get some relief. So it's starting to seem like this was just a really bad accident.

I just heard of it this morning. Apparently his daughter was the light of his life. It's hard to imagine he would deliberately overdose with her whole life, and his, ahead of them. What a tragic fate.

I don't think it was deliberate. I think he was having some health problems, severe insomnia among them, and that combined with whatever medication he was taking can really hamper your judgement. I think this was a really tragic accident.

I've been away from LJ, devastated by the Heath news. Such a shock. I'm still just flattened by it.

I totally agree that it's not likely at all that he overdosed on purpose. He was enjoying his work and loved his little girl to pieces. The media is trying hard to sensationalize it, but I think it will come out in the end that it was an accident.

I know that you were active in the Brokeback fandom and so this must especially be a blow. I just remember how wonderful his performance was and how we all enjoyed the movie so much and the way we talked about it afterwards. It's really hard to believe that one of the people responsible for that is gone and at such a young age. Hope you're feeling better soon. If you want to go out to lunch or dinner or something, drop me a line.

Thanks, hon. Things are lightening up a bit, but I have to force myself to do anything other than sit at the computer and read too many grieving posts and articles.

There's nothing really out there that I want to see. "No Country for Old Men" was the only thing on my list and I saw that a couple of weeks ago. But maybe we could just do dinner?
