Feb. 29th, 2008 09:00 amOkay, two things.
First of all, I love how no matter where or no matter when, all high-school yearbook layouts look exactly the same. The same cheesy, wannabe-fancy fonts. The same godawful grainy pictures. It never, ever changes. You could go to any high-school library in America and pull out yearbooks from any time in the past 30 years and they'd look exactly the same. That's frigging fantastic.
Second, OMG, Jensen Ackles was THAT guy. He was always gorgeous. He was never the ugly duckling. No "eye of the beholder" crapola here.
See, this isn't the way it's supposed to work in the great American high-school mythology. Here's how it's supposed to work:
The football hero turns into a pot-bellied loser pumping gas at the local filling station and the Homecoming Queen winds up in a trailer park with a bunch of saggy-diapered kids.
The picked-upon geek grows up into a software billionaire who dates supermodels while the class two-bagger morphs into a supermodel and everyone's sorry they weren't nicer to both of them.
And anyone, and I mean anyone who was ever voted "Most Attractive" is totally supposed to go to seed by the time he hits the ripe old age of thirty, if not long before then. Understand? That is the way it's supposed to work. He's not supposed to get ridiculously, exponentially BETTER LOOKING.
So stop fucking with these dearly held cliches, Ackles. They're the only things that keep the rest of us going and frankly, it's downright un-American of you. So there.
Oh, and happy 30th birthday, you seedy old...bloody gorgeous bastard.

Date: 2008-03-01 04:57 am (UTC)And before this I often found actors that weren't so beautiful as kids who grew to be gorgeous. Also lovely kid actors who turned the other way around when they've become adult.
Not Ackles, though.
Goddamned him.

Date: 2008-03-03 05:03 am (UTC)Btw, what exactly is a bell-guard? Someone said that Jensen was a cheerleader during high-school, so a bell-guard is some kind of a male cheerleader? What do they do exactly, these bell-guards? I'm having all kinds of delicious mental images of young Jensen waving poms-poms here.

Date: 2008-03-03 11:51 pm (UTC)I grew up in New York City so I have no idea what positions there are on a high-school cheerleading squad. We don't go in for that stuff much around here. You're gonna have to ask someone from the heartland.
