Mar. 10th, 2008 08:49 pmNo, not Supernatural's. Mine.
I'm gonna go on hiatus for a few weeks, probably at least until SPN returns at the end of April. Primarily this is because I've committed myself to doing no personal internet-type stuff at work because I'm sick of the IT guy poking around in my private life. This leaves me with only a couple of hours every evening to post, answer comments and keep up with other people's LJs and I find myself coming home after eight hours of staring at a computer and staring at my laptop until eleven o'clock and that's not healthy or productive. There are some other things I need to be doing right now and unplugging myself will hopefully help me do them.
Before I remove my delightful presence from your oh-so-dreary little lives, here are some things to keep you busy without moi:
1) Deranged trouble-maker and all-around bad influence
2) Please please please avail yourself of the fantastic progressive news coverage at Crooks and Liars. There are a half-dozen things there every day that I want to link to, and all of the other blogs referenced on that site are worth checking out too. It's the perfect alternative to the useless news on the mainstream networks.
3) Stay the hell away from Television Without Pity if you have any love for Supernatural or any respect for yourself as a viewer. I've come to the conclusion that the recapper assigned to the show is either a passive-aggressive asshole or just a plain asshole who allows his derision for the show to extend to the fans themselves. This is somehow okey-dokey with the powers that be over there, including the moderator of the show's forums and since no one is allowed to say anything to their lofty eminences on the site, I'm saying it here. I wish someone had warned me off the site before I joined it. Frankly, I wish I'd never heard of it.
4) Disk 6 of Supernatural Season One reportedly contains enhanced content, viewable only on a computer. I can't play any of it because I need to download some software but one of the goodies is supposed to be an early draft of the show's pilot episode, featuring very different (and supposedly much less likable) versions of Sam and Dean. Should be interesting for anyone who's curious about the writing process.
5) I came this close to having a wickedly dirty dream about Dean Winchester, only to be thwarted by the Alarm Clock of Doom and Sexual Frustration. I have absolutely no reason to tell you that except to remind you that my life sucks and I can't even catch a break in my sleep.
6) If you can, rent yourselves some Deadwood. All three seasons of this violent, profane, filthy and hugely addictive HBO series are now out on DVD and I just finished consuming them with great relish this weekend. Mind-bogglingly good writing backed up by a fantastic cast that includes our own dear Jim Beaver as Ellsworth, a character just as awesome and squishable as Bobby Singer. Was Ellsworth Bobby in a past life? Or maybe Bobby and Ellsworth are one in the same which would make Bobby...immortal????? A key Deadwood delight for me was the pitiless characterization of real-life mining tycoon George Hearst as murderous psychopath. Since I can now tell you that the job I didn't get last month was at Hearst Publishing, it thrilled me to no end to listen to two seasons of "fuck Hearst!" and "fucking Hearst!!" Yeah...FUCK HEARST!!
Anyway, I'm over and out. See you in April. Enjoy your spring!!

Date: 2008-03-11 05:19 am (UTC)But I will go to #1. I watched Jason again last night, and found out that he had never been found dead. Which means I can still hope. :)
And #5, I hope you'll have a more complete version tonight.
Cheers!
