layne67 posted that the official Supernatural magazine is holding a contest where you can vote for the the show's "Bests" in 20 different categories including "Best Overall Episode," "Best Director," etc. Pretty standard stuff, right? Then I get to the last category:

"Most Romantic Moment"

Oh, sweet Jesus! ARE THEY KIDDING US? What on earth were the editors of that magazine thinking when they put that category in there? Did anyone over there realize how many Great Moments in Wincestuous Looks they're going to have to sift through before they find one "romantic moment" that they can actually publish?? Because you know damn well they're never going to publish anything like:

Most Romantic Moment: Sam gazing longingly at Dean sleeping at the end of "Bedtime Stories."

Do you think that's going to make it in there? NO FUCKING WAY! And what a shame, too because honestly -- this is not a show for publication-appropriate romantic moments. Let's run down the boys' heterosexual relationships, shall we?

Sam/Jessica: Dies on the ceiling.
Dean/Cassie: Painfully stilted dialogue, gratuitous sex, stormy breakup, never seen again.
Sam/That Pigtailed Chick in Provenance: I can't even remember her name. Never seen again.
Dean/Jo: A non-starter.
Sam/Madison: Bullet through the head.
Dean/Carmen: SHE WASN'T EVEN REAL!!
Dean/Lisa: One-week stand.
Dean/Bela: I can't believe I even typed that.
Sam/Bela: I can't believe I typed that either. Curse my traitorous fingers!!

Did I miss anyone?

So yeah, good luck, editors of Supernatual magazine.

And just for the record? Like I said, I don't see the Wincest. I can actually see the J2 more than the Wincest. They're just so...brotherly in the show. But if I had to pick one "Most Romantic Moment" for Dean/Sam it'd be:

"Mystery Spot:" Sam charges out of bed to hug Dean, whom Sam has believed to be dead for the last three months. Dean returns the embrace without emitting a single wisecrack. Kim Manners employs his habitual extreme closeups as Sam looks adoringly down at Dean and Dean goggles adorably up at his gigantic little brother. Jared Padalecki looks positively smitten throughout the whole thing. Jensen Ackles just looks as pink and perfect as a newly opened rose.

Damn them both!

As always, there is no single thing in your post that I cannot comment.

So
- The editors wouldn't expect us to pick Sam and Dean with one of those girls, would they? I'll say that will be so hypocritical. But then does romantic moments have to mean sexually romantic? Er, or yes? Oops. :D

- I actually see more J2 than Wincest, too. It's just so easy. All those loving gazes and touches belong to Jared and Jensen, not Sam and Dean. Did you read/see the video when Jared was asked about Wincest, fanfics, and RPG? He immediately referred to Jensen and not Dean (with Sam). Omg. Does he actually think about J2 all this while?

- My most romantic moment would be the one when Sam and Dean communicating with Ouija board. But I can easily agree with you there. In fact, all their scenes mostly are romantic. Heheh.

Jensen Ackles just looks as pink and perfect as a newly opened rose.

I have two reactions to that pic:

1) Jared really, really needs to take up smoking or start eating tons of rice or engage in some other growth-stunting behavior because Jensen is looking tinier than ever compared to him. Isn't he?

2) Guys are frigging weird. I think I have to do a whole separate post about this. The more I think about this whole J2 thing the more I realize that guys in general tend to be really physical with each other in a way that women are not with other women. And because this behavior is so alien to us, we interpret it as being sexual in some way and I don't think the guys see it that way at all. Guys are just weird, man. I will never figure them out.

Yes, they would. While everybody involved with the show seems to know about the slash thing, a mainstream publication designed to promote the show is not going to acknowledge it in print. I'm thinking they'll pick Dean/Cassie as most romantic moment. I'd bet on Sam/Madison but that whole bullet-in-the-head thing really killed the romance, didn't it?

He must have a pretty tough time on the set if that's what he's thinking about!

I do love that. I especially love the scrapes running straight across Dean's knuckles. Gawd, I love to see Dean banged up. He just wears it so well!

I don't know, but someone was recently telling me there's some enzyme in rice that halts or slows down growth, especially if children eat it. So it's probably too late for Jared. He's just going to be a whole foot taller than Jensen soon.

I think that really depends on where you live. In the U.S. it's not all that uncommon to see women walking arm-in-arm but actually holding hands is not something you see that often. If I saw two women walking down the street holding hands, I probably would think they were a couple.

The type of physicality that I'm talking about with guys is different, though. It's like -- why are football players always slapping each other on the ass? You don't really see women doing that in any situation. I remember watching the 2006 World Cup and some of those guys on the Italian team couldn't keep their hands off each other. And then you've got these two with their busy hands and adoring looks and Twizzler-porn and WTF!? Are all men secretly, subconsciously gay for each other? Or are they just weird like that?

Heh, great thread. The photos don't lie. There's way more than a three-inch difference between them. I think that Jared may be a little taller than he says and Jensen may be shorter. I haven't looked up Jessica Alba's height (if you could even find a reliable source) but she's always seemed fairly petite to me (and that's on TV where people usually tend to look taller than they are in real life). In all the Dark Angel scenes he had with her, even when they were walking side-by-side, he didn't look all that much taller than she was. Maybe three, four inches at most. So if he's really 6'1", that would put her at around 5'10", and I do NOT think she's that tall. Heeee, Jensen's tiny!
