On a global scale, the biggest issues of the upcoming American election are probably the war and the environment. But the issue that most concerns me on a personal scale is healthcare. The healthcare situation here in America is deplorable, and I don't think those of you who live in countries with good national healthcare can even understand what it's like. As bad as it is, John "Fucking Idiot" McCain wants to make it worse. Most Americans (myself included) now have access to health insurance only through our employer. McCain wants to TAKE THAT AWAY TOO. This man is an offensive imbecile and anyone who votes for him should be put on a barge and floated out to the middle of the ocean for good.
Glenn Greenwald's is another Blog You Should Be Reading. Greenwald's posts are terrifically long but always worth it. This week, he served up some truly great coverage of the PENTAGON MILITARY ANALYST SCANDAL, in which a bunch of retired generals sold their country a pack of lies to line their own pockets. This is treason as far as I'm concerned and these guys and anyone who knew about this should be on trial for it. You'd better read this story here, because most of the major media outlets in this country are refusing to cover it. "Liberal media" my ass.
Five years ago, a substantial portion of the American public and a large swath of the aforementioned "liberal media" squeed like little fangirls when their idiot draft-dodging man-child of a president PLAYED DRESS-UP IN A FLIGHTSUIT COSTUME and pretended to land on an aircraft carrier. What is it about America that we seem to need and fall for this fake he-man shit? Over in Spain, which I've always thought of as a "macho" country, they don't need to play these puerile gender games. Check out THIS UNBELIEVABLE PICTURE of Spain's Minister of Defense reviewing the troops -- while seven months pregnant -- and ask yourself if this could ever happen in America.
