Yup. Within hours the snow on the road at least was disgusting grey slush. But there weren't many cars out at all and all the buses were canceled, so it wasn't too bad.
Still, Westminster in the snow = Hogwarts. Preeeetty. x.
It's very pretty, especially the shots of Big Ben. I'm not used to seeing London in the snow. Can't believe it's been so long since you really had any!
I'm stuck out here in the 'burbs. The snow is very deep and very pretty indeed, but yesterday there were no commuter trains at all to London and today only a reduced service, so ... I'm at home again, wheee!
They reckon British business lost £1.2 billion yesterday because of the snow chaos. Just what we need as the country slides into recession.
How can snow knock out the whole nation, for heaven's sake?? How did we ever run an Empire?????
I think you're just not used to it. How many inches did you get after all? It doesn't really look like all that much. We're fairly accustomed to snow in NYC so it takes at least 14 inches to really shut things down, and then only if that amount comes down all at once. One of the worst snowstorms in my recent memory was in January of 1996. I believe that was about 21 inches that fell in a period of about...20 hours. At its worst, it was a true "whiteout," I remember looking out the window and couldn't even see across the street. The whole city was pretty much shut down the next day (a Monday) but by Tuesday everyone was up and on their way to work. Meanwhile, in parts of the country where they're not used to snow, it can take only 2 or 3 inches to shut down everything from the highway to the airport.
