I feel like I'm spamming you guys with posts on the economy and politics and I know that an awful lot of you don't follow my journal to read this kind of stuff but dear God I can't believe what's going on. It's especially important for you people in other countries to read this because you might still be basking in that lovely inaugural glow and thinking that things are going to start getting better now but you need to know that the very people who failed so horrifically over the last eight years are being given a nationwide platform on just about every news outlet to spew propaganda about the president's economic stimulus and it's working and the Democrats are doing nothing to stop it. Polling shows that public support for the stimulus package (already cleverly re-dubbed "the spending package") is dropping and where the fuck are the guys who ran such a brilliant campaign? Where is all that amazing PR and grassroots organizing and messaging?

The Democrats are doing what they've always done -- assuming (incorrectly) that the American public is "smart enough" to figure out what's really in their own best interest. If that hasn't been true since the day we elected Ronald Reagan, why would it ever be true now? Not to mention, how can the vast majority of Americans possibly be expected even to know what's in their interest when all they see and hear is that the stimulus package is "larded up" with pork and free condoms and God knows what and what's really, really gonna save the economy is more tax cuts.

John Cole over at Balloon Juice says it best:

"The problem is who is informing us with what. Our media is simply failing us. Why have they not asked the Republicans how tax cuts are going to provide jobs? Why are they not laughing openly when the Republicans bring up capital gains tax cuts as part of a stimulus package. Why are they not asking the Republicans to explain how infrastructure spending is not stimulus? Why are they pretending this woman’s minor tax oversight is on par with outing a CIA agent or letting tens of thousands of people soak for a week in New Orleans. Why are they gleefully reporting about Joe the Plumber giving economic advice to the House republicans while their colleagues are writing about the Republicans being unified in opposition to the stimulus and putting two and two together and realizing that the opposition to the stimulus from Republicans is based on the deep thoughts of a drug addled radio host and a guy who installs toilets?

You can call me naive all you want, and I know I have a habit of falling for BS talking points, but I guess it is finally clear to me- it really is all just a game to these people."

Yes it is, and in this game we are ALL going to lose. To quote John Cole again:

"I am seriously buying a generator, a goat, and a plot of land in the mountains for when the shit goes down. These people are killing us."

Aw, hell, Oselle. I LOVE your rants. Spam away, and may I just add "WORD" to everything you said.

I don't watch TV except for the occasional show. It makes me want to barf to read how our lazy, idiotic media people are giving the Republicans a forum to spew their garbage, and the hapless, hopeless Democrats in Congress just let them get away with it. I can only guess that Pres. Obama and his staff are now so deep in trying to figure out what to do and how to do it that they don't have the time or energy to try to control the message the way they did during the campaign. They need to get on top of this crap NOW. It may already be too late to not see some lasting damage from this lack of message control. One things about the Republicans, they have a great ability to stay on-message and hammer away at their talking points of the week. I just laugh at them but it's obvious that waaaaay too many people listen to them.

I'm with John Cole. It's time to prepare to head for the hills. Eru help us all, because things are going to get seriously ugly in this F'ed up country.

Your rants are filled with truth, alas. I am truly afraid for our future and hearing Cheney coming out of the creepy dark bowels of the earth where he has been lurking the last few months to spew his b.s. today was a bit more than I could take...

Well first of all, I'd like to use simpler language than "realize what's in their best economic interest" or "we need to marginalize the opposition." What we need to say those white, hard-workin' Nascar-watchin' country-listnin' mullet-wearin' chicken-fryin' flag-flyin' truck-drivin' gun-wavin' church-goin' wife-cheatin' dumb morans is: Fuck the Repubs, they just take those tax cuts, build palaces for themselves, and send your job to China anyway.

I'm with you - although I did notice that Obama did an interview today (or yesterday?) where he did point out some stuff - like - hey - I was elected because those i8djits (he said it nicer) screwed up and the people want change - so hopefully they will start to fight back - I have been ranting for years about how the Dems never fight back with the facts when the reps start spewing their crap... grrrrrr

Word up, dude.

The Congressional Dems DO have enough votes to pass anything they want. You don't need "60" votes in the Senate, you only need 50+Biden. Harry Reid just cowers down at the word "filibuster." Nobody truly filibusters anymore, they just kinda vote to say that we-could-filibuster-if-we-wanted-to.

People at DailyKos have the best idea. No more of this cloture crap. If Republicans want to really filibuster, MAKE THEM. Let them stand there and talk until they fall over, old school. Give them the DC phone book, a Bible, War and Peace, and a bucket. Set up a little FilibusterCam on MSNBC, showing obstructionism in real time to The People. The Repubs wouldn't last a day.

Goodness. My brother texted me this morning in panic, telling me to withdraw some of my savings and buy gold asap. Our money soon will lose all its value.

A game we all lose indeed. I want to slap them when they start trotting this idiocy out. I get why it's so easy--the Republican message is easier. That's why it worked for so long.

I don't think of this as spamming, I think of it as education. And on more than one occasion, I have shared your links in order to educate others.

And I love your additional commentary because 9 times out of 10 it captures so perfectly the frustration and passion I am feeling - so thank you for that, too.
