Tell me about this Dreamwidth thing. It seems rather expensive...$40 for one year? Did I read that right? Are people quietly migrating over there? Does everyone know something I don't??
I'm not planning to leave LJ, but I did get a dreamwidth, I wanted to make sure I was morganslady there as well. If you can find someone with 'invites' you can get a free account. I was lucky a friend had a coupon that's how I got my account free. I wasn't offered any free coupons or I would send one your way.
Excellent, thank you for the invite. I set up an account just so I could keep my name, as others are doing. I do like that it seems to work the same way as LJ, though I really hope there isn't a mass migration.
I don't really understand it. I registered through open id last week, and Friday they sent me an invite code. So I figured I should take advantage of it and set up an account (I'm ariadnes_string over there too). I've seen a lot of people talking about DW on LJ, but as far as I can tell the accounts aren't very active over there--though some people are cross-posting to DW and LJ (which DW allows you to do pretty easily). I don't *think* there's much going on on DW that isn't also on LJ--but I certainly could be missing something!
Some aspects of DW are appealing. No ads. The subscribe/ reading page set up in nice, I think. And I think you can make longer post. Who knows if it'll catch on, though.
So, I don't really know what to do with my DW account. But since I don't really know what to do with my LJ account half the time, I'll just keep both for now! If you find anything cool going on over there, please share! *g*
(it sounds like someone might have sent you an invite code, but if you still need one, let me know, I think I can request them...)
It appears that most people are saying they aren't leaving LJ, they have a permanent account, yada yadda yada, but then a few days later they seem to have caved and headed over there, although they are mostly cross posting or whatever. As a lurker, I'll follow the fic. It'll be awfully lonely here if ya'll drift over there...hopefully, I won't have to worry about that for awhile.
