Two vids for you.

In the first one, a guy from Israel talks up national healthcare. Apparently Israel has national healthcare for its citizens, so it must therefore be a Nazi state, leading some idiot to start yelling "Heil Hitler" at the guy. He very rightly lets her have it. "Shame of you," indeed, my friend. Be sure to watch this one all the way to the end when the idiot decides that making crybaby noises and faces is a key component of thoughtful debate. This is the level of infantilism we're dealing with.

And this one's making the rounds and deserves it. Congressman Barney Frank of Massachusetts finally shows us exactly how these protesters should be dealt with.

Absolutely stellar. Now...this young lady really ought to be going home and hanging her head in shame. Instead, I'm sure tomorrow she'll be making the rounds of Fox News to whine about how she was "abused" by her congressman. I'll bet Sean Hannity is home right now practicing his patented, simpering "sympathetic outrage" face.

I can't get over that first clip. What does she even think she's talking about? It's bad enough that she starts with the Heil Hitler speaking to an Israeli. Then she has her nonsensical "you should be most against President Obama!" reminding us that for her it's really more about having 'that man' as president rather than any bill that is or isn't being passed.

But when the guy actually starts to talk about healthcare, about how much it costs to have a medical issue without insurance, she starts with the crying noises as if nobody should complain about %8,000 for a trip to the emergency room.

Does she even know that this is the subject she's supposed to be discussing? Wait, why am I asking? Of course she doesn't. In her world the issue at stake is Obama setting up concentration camps next week.

It's so refreshing to see Barney answering that nonsense the way it deserves to be answered.

And why am I not surprised at the convenient snips that made the exchange palatable at Faux News?

To be honest, I'm curious about what cost $8000 at the emergency room. It's doubtful that it was life-threatening, or he would not have waited two hours. Even the worst ER's are a little quicker than that. What could be non life-threatening, but still expensive? Maybe a broken bone?

Anyway, these protestors clearly don't know what they're protesting. Heck, at this point I'm pretty confused myself as to what sort of reform Obama specifically wants. We can't even get a decent yes/no on the Public Option.

Have been following your post on the health care debate with horrified interest. I have always understood that there was something wonky with the American healthcare system, but until the effort to actually make it better started I had no idea that it was this wonky. I'm just happier and happier to live where I live, even if there are lot of issues with our own system (those damn moderates, sucking all the money out of the pubic sector... yes, I'm bitter)

Until recently I actually thought socialized was a synonym to civilized, now I read about people hurling it around like a profanity.

I wonder where the whole Obama=Hitler thing comes from. This is probably just me trying to put logic where logic never really had a chance of survival, but Hitler, what kind of healthcare was he for? Certainly not free healthcare for everyone, or even affordable for poor people. I'm no expert, but I think he was more of a "maybe if you're blond enough, and willing to fight in my army" kind of guy. Which seems to be more of a Republican point of view. I'm trying to wrack my brain to come up with even one more connection other than the 'socialist' in 'Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei', but I got nothing.

"Socialism" is a dirty word over here and I'm sure that most people using it don't even know what it means. If countries like England and France and Canada are "socialist" then we could definitely use some of that socialism to raise our overall standard of living. But you need to understand that we have a very muddled way of looking at things to begin with, and then on top of it our media lies to us horribly and most of us aren't curious or skeptical enough to seek out the truth.

Obama = Hitler is based on the wholly fictitious and repellent lie that his proposed healthcare plan would euthanize "non-productive" members of society such as the sick and elderly, just as the Nazis exterminated those they deemed to be undesirables. It is also believed by many that Obama, and Democrats in general, want to turn America into a completely socialist state, which is equated with fascism, or at least with whatever definition of fascism the Republicans are pushing this week. In truth the hallmarks of a fascist state are absolutely more in keeping with current conservative, Republican values, in particular the cozy relationship between government and corporate interests and the constant promotion of militant and often racist "patriotism."

Where do you live, if you don't mind my asking.

Thanks for clarifying the whole Hitler thing, at least now I understand where the thing comes from, even if it is a really stupid argument.

I'm from Sweden, and we're kinda the prototype of a socialistic country. Since 1920 or thereabout the Swedish Social Democratic Party have only not been in power for no more than 20 years, even if it's been with a coalition government, they've always been the biggest party.

I am constantly amazed and fascinated on how much our cultural upbringing makes such a huge difference on how we see on things. In this age of the internet it feels like the culture just becomes a constant all spreading medium, and everyone understands each other. In a time when almost everyone over here gets quotes like 'we're not in Kansas any more' it comes as a chock that a well established concept like 'socialism' can have such different associations among people.

LOL Sweden! Sweden!! OMG here in America, Sweden is like...everything that's awful in the world! Seriously, I saw a guy at one of these protests holding up a sign saying I DON'T WANT TO LIVE IN SWEDEN or some crap like that, and then I recall a few years ago I was reading an article in the New York Times and some Christian fundamentalist was quoted as saying that in Sweden "they've abolished the family." LOL! Have you abolished the family, you Godless socialist Swede? Really...what is it like to live in hell on earth? What's it like being under the thumb of a bloated totalitarian bureaucracy that makes all of your decisions for you, that has outlawed religion, destroyed heterosexual marriage and crushed the entrepreneurial spirit of the people with taxes and regulation? Oh, do tell me!

Let's not forget that our entire female population consists of tall, blond, gorgeous, sexually adventurous women called Inga.

Of course we've abolished ALL family values, the only people who get married are those gays, and every woman above twenty has had at least one abortion!

I know I suffer horribly by the fact that I'm not allowed to pay a penny for my university education, the government even forces about $250 a month on me. Plus, my (unmarried with my father for 30 years) mother worked my entire childhood (after the 400 days paid parental leave she split evenly with my father). I must be ruined for life.

the 400 days paid parental leave

See if you GODLESS SWEDES really cared about FAMILIES you'd give only 30 days of maternity leave the way we do here because then more women would have to quit their jobs and stay HOME with their kids like they do over here WHERE WE CARE ABOUT FAMILIES not like you GODLESS SWEDES who have OUTLAWED THE FAMILY except for QUEERS. Really, I don't know how you live with yourselves.
