Well my friends, the results are in. 75% 78% of you voted for "Cas" over "Cass."

However, I've discovered that the "official" sources, including script sides, the network closed captioning, the Season 4 DVD subtitles and no less an authority than Super Wiki spell it "Cass." Conformist that I am, (and seeing as how that's my personal preference anyway) I'm sticking with "Cass." Plus now I don't have to change the spelling in the other stories! I hope that this will not impede your enjoyment of any Future!Castiel unrequited-pining-away fics that I may kick out including those that include but may not be limited to stories featuring Hurt!Dean, Sick!Dean, Naked!Wet!Dean and AlloftheAbove!Dean.

On a related note, just over 14% 12% of you voted for the "Laverne/do it" option.

Thanks for voting!!

::does the Cass victory dance::

But you may now need to write a fic in which a delirious AlloftheAbove!Dean calls Cass Laverne, and Cass says "Surely you jest," and Dean says, "Stop calling me Shirley ."

And then they do it.

(no, seriously, any and all Cass-Dean fic from you, whatever the nomenclature, is good news!)

Seriously though, did you see the previews for next week? Cuz unless my eyes were deceiving me they're going to do a takeoff on the famous or infamous Laverne & Shirley opening montage and I AM PRESCIENT YO.

OMG--I missed that the first time! That's hysterical. You are channeling them. Now--if only they could channel you *g*

I always think of it as Cas but I thought you'd intentionally written it as Cass in the futurefic because that's who he was by then. So that totally worked for me in the futurefic. And I like thinking of Dean calling him "Cass" instead of "Cass." Like he's given him the nickname, and it's the ordinary name--because Dean would totally have a friend named Cass.

That actually makes me think...what's Cass usually short for?

I like this idea and hadn't thought of it myself. My readers are smarter than I am!!

Cass is usually short for Cassandra, I'd imagine, but in some of William Faulkner's books it's short for "McCaslin," which is both a first name and a last.

It's good to see you made your decision on sound research.

Regardless of my personal preference for "Cas" I look forward to reading all future dean/Cas/Cass (or maybe that should be Dean/Cass/Dean) fic from you.

Exhaustive research, mostly provided by others. The best kind!

That's true. The scripts from super wiki call him Cass. :)

Oh noes, now I can't read any more of your fic! ;)

I'm the same as [livejournal.com profile] sistermagpie - I think of present day Castiel as Cas, and future!Castiel as Cass. Either way - yes, please!

Your poll reminded me of when I first read The Outsiders, where SE Hinton shortened "Social" (the rich kids) to "soc." Until I heard C. Thomas Howell say "Soash" in the movie, I thought they were Socks.

oops.

I know, it's funny how you can read something and hear it completely differently in your mind.
