I haven't really been watching the Olympics but every time I see one of those panoramic shots of the city it looks so beautiful. To hear some people talk about Vancouver you would think it was some derelict, soggy backwater, but if I were an actor I think I'd consider myself lucky to land a series in the glittering Pacific beauty of Vancouver rather than L.A.'s smogbound cesspool.

ETA: N'awww, the Canadian women's hockey team just won the Gold. Good for them!

I also think National Geographic or some other publication recently voted Vancouver the second most beautiful city in the world after Prague.

Man. They've got amazing First Nations art and jewelry, good food, fricken totem poles!, a gorgeous big park (well, more than 1) and nekkid beaches. They are just not trying hard enough.

I live in LA and I just hate it. I visited Vancouver for the first time this summer and was just blown away: amazing food, phenomenonal scenery, great shopping, wonderfully friendly people. I could so see living there.

Yeh, I know. SPN's actors aren't the first ones I've heard complain about being "stuck" in Vancouver -- the isolation, the weather, etc. It looks to me like a pretty nice place to get stuck if you ask me.

Tell them I'll box their ears if they start pulling a Duchovny.

;-)

(and I am so proud of our women's hockey team right now)

LOL...some of the things Jared and Jensen have said really got me thinking of Duchovny.

Did I hear that the Canadian women's hockey team had to apologize for drinking beer and smoking cigars on the ice after the awards ceremony? WTF? Why the fuck wouldn't they drink beer and smoke cigars? People have gotten uptight in such a stupid way.

Yup. I think it was champagne, but yeah, the IOC has their knickers in a twist. *EYEROLL* And it's not like anyone was still there - all the fans and staff and the US team had all left - it was just Team Canada.

I know I was shocked -- shocked! -- to think that young women who play a badass game of hockey might drink! And smoke cigars!! There was some blather about banning them from the closing ceremonies and I hope that got shot down real fast. Can we save our outrage for real things, plz?

It looks absolutely stunning. I have a friend who moved back there last year and I've been thinking about visiting her. Fuck it, I've been thinking about moving there.

I've only ever been to Montreal in Canada, but I immediately wanted to move there after only 24 hours in the city. It was the cleanest city I'd ever seen in my life, and I've been around! Beautiful.

Montreal IS beautiful. It's like Paris only sans the snotty. I think the sheer cleanliness of Canada is one of the things Americans find so jarring about it -- in so many ways, it feels like home and yet it's not. If you drive from the U.S. to Canada, you feel it as soon as you cross the border. Northern Maine or upstate New York feels so poor and trashy in so many places and then you cross over and the landscape is exactly the same but it's all nice and clean and well-kept. LOL, must be all that free healthcare. Kinda helps to keep the messy poverty at bay, I guess. Hopefully the Canadians have enough common sense to ignore Sarah Palin's advice to "open up" their healthcare system to the "free market!"

The subway platforms in Montreal have stained glass windows, and they scrub any graffiti off the walls every night, from what some locals told me. Can you imagine that in NYC?

The more I learn about Canada, the more I am contemplating moving there, for real.

I was born and raised in Vancouver. I love it and I can't imagine living anywhere else. Every morning driving into work I come over a hill and see the city spread out in front of me with the mountains as a backdrop. After 40 years it still makes my breath catch a little bit each time. We do get our fair share of rain but it keeps everything green and it makes us really appreciate the sun when it's out. So when I hear negative comments coming from actors who spend so much of their time here I guess it hurts my feelings a little bit. It would also make me sad to think they might not like working here because of it..Ah well, I think I'm just feeling overly sensitive today ;)

I've heard actors complaining about being "stuck" in Vancouver and while I can understand that they may feel a little out of the loop for not being in L.A. I just...can't imagine why anyone would rather be in L.A. Frankly, it's not like they're even "stuck" there at all -- they all have enough money to fly out whenever they get a few days off, a luxury denied to those of us who truly are "stuck" someplace. If Jensen can turn up at Los Angeles golf tournaments and horse races that take place right in the middle of the show's shooting schedule, then he's hardly "stuck." I have a hair across my ass today, too. Actually it's been there for a while. >:(

So true about hardly being stuck. Not only that but with all their hiatus' they get more time off during the year than with any other job out there. Plenty of time to be with their family and friends. I'm not sure if they realize how lucky they are. I have friends who have to save up for a couple of years before they can afford to go visit their family back east. Wow!! I think your post has brought out feelings me I didn't even realize were there. I'm usually fairly mellow and even tempered but right now I'm seriously irked.

As a resident of this fair city and a newly minted Canadian citizen, I will say thank-you for your clear-sighted observations. This is a great place to live. I think 'some people' find it difficult because they're used to sweltering heat, plagues of insects and the thrill of imminent natural disasters - we just don't play it like that around here.
