Sigh.

Why did Sam take the baby in the first place?
I don't know.

Why are the Campbells "boxing up" monsters?
I don't care.

Who's Grampa Samuel talking to on that phone?
Yawn.

Dean whipping the tarp off that Impala and smiling at it like a long-lost love and giving me ten seconds of absolute bliss that literally left me giggling and kicking my feet in the air for five whole minutes?
YES YES GOD YES RIGHT THERE OH RIGHT THERE OH GOD YES YES YES....YES!!!

*lights cigarette*

Welcome back, baby. I'm just a goddamn sucker for you is what I am, you smooth, sweet-talking, two-faced bastard. I know you're never gonna treat me right, you just ain't got in you. But it's all right, baby. It's all right.

I need an icon of the look on Dean's face when he was looking at that car.

Aw man, I don't get to see it till monday and until I read your post I'd even forgotten it was on today - but now, with the promise of our man having a moment of joy with his best girl has me actually looking forward to it! Yay! Thank you for giving me even a two-second-long reason to look forward to show, something I haven't had in a LONG time - at least a season, as a matter of fact.

Even if the whole rest of the season sucks that ten seconds was worthwhile.

I actually love it that you said "if" and not "when".

Well, if they can pull off those ten seconds then this show isn't dead yet.

Your optimism is almost inspirational. I so wish I'd not lost faith. Maybe reading your posts can help me regain a little, cause I just don't see show doing it by itself. Sigh.

The good thing about coming home and watching it late--I can read your reaction right after it's over!

Once again, I'm keeping my eye on Dean because Sam and his weird family seem totally off, but not in a way that I can really care about because I can't be sure how much of it is intentional. Mostly I just wind up wondering why there was a set up of Sam setting up Dean to make sure he had a normal life and then trying to bust it up all the time ("You know you'll just turn into Dad if you try that, Dean." "You have to help me on another random case that seems like I should be able to handle with my awesome family, Dean..."

But whatever. Didn't mind it. The Impala was looking right back at Dean, happy as a clam.

Though Lisa has got to be the most convenient girlfriend ever. Wonder how Ben's going to relate to this new arrangement?

I know. The way that scene played it was almost spiteful. Like Sam was jealous of what Dean had and so he was telling him that if he tried to keep it he'd just fuck it all up anyway. Not that there wasn't some truth in what Sam was saying, but it's still an uncomfortable fit with the whole "I wanted you to be happy so I pretended to be dead" scenario. What, was there an expiration date on Dean's happiness? Offer void after one year?

Lisa has got to be the most convenient girlfriend ever.

They had to get rid of her and so they did. I'm glad they didn't kill her off or have Dean just up and vanish on her to protect her or something. I'll agree that there are very few women in the world who would agree to a similar arrangement, but the closest real-life comparison I can make is to army wives. They can go months and months without seeing their husbands and they know that's part of the package. So I guess that's how Lisa looks at it -- Dean's going off to do his job. What I find way more unrealistic is the fact that they could move house so easily, especially these days, and now they're uprooted and she doesn't even have a job...is Dean going to be sending his pool-hustling take to her to keep her in yet another big, beautiful house?

But whatever! The Impala! The look on Dean's face! BLISS!

Yes! I am with you on that last scene. Glorious! Hehe :-)

When Lisa said that she wanted Dean to go, I was all like, "I knew it!"

It would just be too obvious to kill Lisa and Ben off just so that Dean would go back. I was glad that it was really because Dean wants to go, especially with Sam back. I don't know how long Sam's going to stay in his own car though. Hehe.

I'm sure Sam enjoys being behind the wheel for a change but that car is history. I hope he was just leasing it.

I just want to say that I'm fully aware that all those glamour-shots of the Impala were nothing but a pure manipulative sop to the audience but...it worked. What the hell, it's not like I watch this show for its razor-sharp wit.

I think they know that if there was anything that could unite the hardcore Sam!Girls and Dean!Girls - it's really the Impala. Hahaha. :-)

I found the ep kinda boring until that moment and then all of a sudden it's done? But I just stopped being bored lol. And of course they killed off the one Campbell that seemed mildly interesting.

And from the beginning I'm thinking, haven't I seen this episode on X-Files? I'm hoping the writers aren't that desperate to start plumbing old X-Files for ideas.

Well, to be honest, they've been plumbing The X-Files for years. The X-Files even used Azazel first.

IDGAF about the *+~Campbell mystery~+* either. I'm not sure about the "monster are just people" thing they have going on either. It's not like we didn't know they had families before and it's just killing all the horror. *rambles*
And Lisa... ok, so they handled it surprisingly gracefully, but how about not writing yourself in a corner in the first place? I enjoyed Dean's angsty stares though.

Why did Sam take the baby in the first place?
So that they could learn about its shifty nature of course!!/Child care doesn't work weekends.

Okay, for some I couldn't stop thinking about the new information about shifters, but no matter which way I turn it it's always wildly inconsistent with what we previously learned. Accepted that the Alpha only collects the young shifters every 100 years (and previous shapeshifters didn't seem informed about their many relatives), how would they ever survive through infancy if they randomly exploded skin? The foster parents must have dropped them like a hot potatoe, and babies really don't survive long on their own. And on a more superficial notion: I wish they had a higher SFX budget for the Alpha. That shifting effect was so mindblowingly bad and the cool thing about the shifters was the gritty reality of the skin-shedding, why did they take that away for the more badass version? :/ I SHOULD JUST STOP THINKING ABOUT THIS SHOW AHH

Much as I expected when I heard this concept announced at ComicCon, I truly don't care about the origins, backstories or biologies of any of these monsters...and you had to know that everything about this was going to be wildly inconsistent with what we've learned before because this show is ALWAYS wildly inconsistent about its own lore, whether that's regarding boogeymen, angels, demons, heaven or what-have-you.

The Impala, however, is consistently shiny. At least there's something you can rely on.

I've just mentioned it elsewhere, but I liked the previous disjointednes of the supernatural beings. What they had in common was that they hurt people and could therefore be hunted. And now they have this thing going on that seems to imply all the supernatural beings are coming from one source or are united be their *supernaturalness* or whatever. I don't care about it. Too much information kills the creepiness. (I got the impression that we're supposed to think "oh look, they caught the poor thing! How mean." BUT WHO KNOWS).
As long as the Impala is shiny and Dean is pretty I will continue to watch, because I'm just that shallow. *sighs*

What bugs me is the notion of all these beings having "families" that they care about so much...talk about killing the creepiness. As you say, are we now supposed to start seeing these creatures as just...different species, not dark, twisted, evil beings that need to be exterminated? I didn't even like it back in Season One when Azazel said that Meg and that other guy were his "children" as if he had dandied them on his knee and taken them to Little League games. I can handle shades of gray to a certain extent, but I like my evil evil.

As long as the Impala is shiny and Dean is pretty I will continue to watch, because I'm just that shallow. *sighs*

They'd better hold onto that shiny car and that pretty face for dear life.

I probably shouldn't mention it, but my most heartfelt reaction to Swan Lake was: "NOOO, NOT HIS PRETTY FACE". (Hope I'm not upsetting fans here.)

I want to write an essay about horror and mail it to Gamble, srsly. Because the shape-shifting changelings had serious creeper potential. I'm the last person to not appreciate shades of gray, but sometimes... no. I want my shades of grey in the characters I have actual emotional investment in, y'know?
I could live with Azazel's "family" because I can see it as a twisted mirror of actual affection and think he was just trying to fuck with Dean there and didn't really give a shit about them.

Finally managed to watch the ep.--and yes, you are quite right: the look on Dean's face at the end could have ignited the Impala's engine all by itself.

Though I have to say, I was already pretty much a pile of goo from Dean w/ a baby.
