SPN 6:15 -- Questions

I'm not as well-versed as some of you on SPN's behind-the-scenes culture and gossip, so I feel like there were inside jokes in last night's episode that I didn't get. Any of you have theories on the following:

1) I feel like there must be some story behind the aquarium in Jensen's trailer. That seemed too oddly specific a detail to just be a joke about diva actors demanding all kinds of on-set perks.

2) Why was Genevieve depicted as being involved in environmental causes? Is she really, or she in fact exactly the opposite? Or were they just making a sneaky observation that she doesn't really work and so has ample time to spend at charity benefits like the idle Hollywood wife that she is.

3) What was up with the giant photoshopped litho of Jared as a cowboy? Or was this once again just part of the episode's running joke that actors are vain and have so much money they don't know what to do with it?

I'm sure there's more but those were the ones that really stuck out for me. Any ideas?

1) I thought the fishtank may have been a Simpson's shoutout -- Troy McClure has a literal fish fetish and giant fish tank in his trailer and he marries one of Marj's sisters as beard when rumors start to circulate.

2) Jared and Gen are both support a charity that rescues dogs from abusive owners and I think JP shilled for PETA at one point so I think it was probably a reference to that.

3) SPOILER SPACE...



There is a cowboy episode coming up on SPN after they get back from hiatus so, again, it might be a shout out to that. Actually, at the last con Jensen made a joke about how Dean's authentic leather duster was going home with him. Apparently they had to import the oiled lambskin from Australia. He seemed pretty excited about the whole thing. *smish*

LMAO...I had the EXACT SAME thought but didn't mention it in my post because I thought it was way too farfetched. Literally, when I saw that fishtank my first thought was Troy McClure! Though actually it wasn't his trailer...his whole house was one big "futuristic" aquarium.

On #2, Jared used to support dog charities, but lately since he and Gen have been appearing at Cons as a package they’ve been pimping something that saves fish from plastic waste. The nonnies on spn_gossip tracked down info that suggests the charity is connected to Gen’s best friend’s family.

As for the otters, well that’s the interesting thing. Otters became an in-joke over on Spnpermanon a couple of months ago and got picked up in the prompts in one of the fanfic kink memes. That means someone over at SPN either follows the gossip or reads dirty stories about the boys having it off with small furry animals!

The depiction of Genevieve overall was so bizarre. You don't often see such unpleasant portrayals of people who champion animal welfare, so that's why I was bzuh? about the whole animal thing. She just came across as a filthy rich housewife who dabbles in charity causes because she has nothing else to do.

That means someone over at SPN either follows the gossip or reads dirty stories about the boys having it off with small furry animals!

I'm beginning to think the people at the show are more involved with fandom than is healthy for them. Or us.

otters? man i learn the craziest stuff on your site...since i don't go to those *other* sites where this stuff is evidently widely known...wow...um...yeah, like you said...WAY more than healthy. i've never heard of a fandom where the show writers seem to be directly competing with the fanfic writers for pushing the envelope...like...envelope, what envelope...

baylorsr also informed me that erstwhile Padalecki fiancee Sandra McCoy had a brief role as a "hippie chick" animal activist on The O.C., in which the character Che (short for Winchester, btw) receives a sweat-lodge vision that his soul mate is an otter, then recognizes Hippie Chick as that very soul mate when she turns up in jail dressed as...well, as a groundhog, but close enough to otter for the lovestruck Che. But they'd never be mean enough to make even a veiled reference to Jared's ex, would they? Would they?

Hope you don't mind me commenting (I was skanking around your lj for fic updates). Anyway, I've read that the Jared cowboy pic was from his failed Lone Ranger pilot. Wherever it came from, you're probably right and it was just a part of the running joke about vain, egotistical stars.
