One half of J2 has finally started a Twitter account: http://twitter.com/#!/jarpad.
His "better half" is his profile pic. And I don't mean his wife. I mean his real better half.
I always knew this day would come. The end of fandom as we know it.

ETA: Okay, shit. Am I going to wind up spending hours following Jared Padaecki's Twitter? Cuz like...he's at this con in Nashville with Jensen, and Jensen said "Tweet something right now," and Jared tweeted "Something right now," and then there it was so it's like...real time Jared & Jensen and I can easily see how quickly this could become addictive. Jesus Christ, I already have no life.

Date: 2011-06-04 06:36 pm (UTC)Yeah, there were rumblings around the time they were wrapping filming that he was thinking about it, and I was really hoping he'd stay smart and not do it. *facepalm*
Interesting how Jensen's wife and so many of his friends are on twitter, and he still feels zero pressure or desire to join the fray.

Date: 2011-06-04 06:56 pm (UTC)I was kinda amused to see Misha snark at him. They seem highly competitive with one another so that could be kinda amusing for a while. I guess it depends on what "persona" JP adopts.
But I agree that I don't think Jensen craves this kind of attention so I can't see him ever going there.

Date: 2011-06-04 07:06 pm (UTC)Well of course they are. There's what's happened with their roles on the show, but far more importantly, Misha is the new boycrush. Jared is just...so 2008.

Date: 2011-06-05 12:51 am (UTC)On the one hand I instinctively know that Jensen resisting the road of overexposure is a mature, sensible, careful move. I’ve heard about all the phony blogs for these two actors, and I am familiar with the concept of certain fans operating under the delusion that the more information they get the more they’ll be ‘connected with’ these guys. Hence J2's recorded statement to the fans awhile back that they have no blogs of any sort so everyone would calm down, right? And after the RP fanfics, photomanips and tinhat conspiracy theories, I can certainly identify with Jensen’s urge to protect whatever parts of himself the fans can’t access that much more diligently. I really hope he’ll stick to his guns on this one.
On the other hand, I guess I’m not familiar enough with fandoms in general to understand why Jared’s Twitter will sound the death knell for this one. Because we shouldn’t have this much direct access to these guys? Because the fans will eat him alive, as possibly evidenced by the explosion of followers (tens of thousands?!) Because we might get a post-by-post record of how much of a shallow jerk he may be, killing the fans’ romantic notions? What foreshadowing am I missing here?
P.S.: I see what you mean about addiction. I don’t even have a damned Twitter account, but I may access this link in your post on a daily basis. Because he’ll announce something important? Or course not. But because it’s JARED and he SAID SOMETHING!! Jeez.

Date: 2011-06-05 03:18 am (UTC)For me, it's that until now, the only "real-time" personal access we've had to these guys is through people connected to them -- Misha, Jim Beaver, their wives. Now, it's actually ONE OF THEM. People are already squeeing over the fact that Jensen is his userpic. It won't be long before they're reading all kinds of God-knows-what messages into his posts.
Not to mention that yes, it amps up this illusion that fans have a personal connection to Jared because he's sharing his life directly with them. For example -- I now know exactly where Jared is going to be tonight (at a club in Nashville). Just an hour ago, he tweeted that he was on his way there. So it's like -- wow, Jared's my friend. He's telling me to join him at this show! Without Twitter, I'd never have known that. I'd have found out two or three days from now that he went to some club in Nashville, and only if it somehow wound up on the SPN newsletter. You see how seductive/addictive/illusory this can be? I'm not even into Jared and yet I find myself completely captivated by the idea that I knew exactly what he was doing today and was planning to do tonight. It's like you said -- it's JARED and he SAID SOMETHING!!
Jensen joked that the idea of Jared on Twitter was "terrifying," but I think he's only half joking. I think he understands the intensity of this fandom and knows that it's important to have boundaries. Establishing this kind of virtual relationship with fandom really breaks down those boundaries, and who knows what might come through?
My one venture into the swamp of spn_gossip was chock full of yammering about Danneel's tweets. Just imagine what they'll have to say about Jared's.
