That's just how Castiel rolls. A production draft from 'The End.'

Good God, can you believe this was supposed to be in the script? Is this for real?

Who is Castiel supposed to be talking to in this scene? Himself?

The End Production Draft

I'm guessing, given the "that's just how I roll" line, that this was part of the scene between Cas and past!Dean in the truck on the way to the showdown where future!Dean sets up his own people to fall on their swords.

And not only is it slashy as hell, but it's also confirmation that Cas knew Dean was sending them to their deaths and why, which I think is pretty freaking crucial.

More proof positive that Ben Edlund is a Dean/Cas slasher. Gotta love him. ;D

Dean. Originally, from what I heard and read, this is what Cas was going to say instead of the drugs and orgies line.

[identity profile] ava-jamison.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Isn't it awesome! I'm going to to believe that it's real. It's the same last line in the scene where Cas is driving, so... he's talking to present day Dean, is the way it looks to me!

[identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh I see...so Castiel is using the third person because he's talking to Dean'09 but referring to Dean'14.

I'm sorry, but I can't believe I ever wrote the whole All Saints series without even knowing about this snippet. Because this is exactly how I felt about Future!Castiel's unswerving devotion to Dean. It just goes to show how much Misha was able to convey in that episode, even without having to spell it out in so many words.

Ahh, "The End"...a great episode? Or THE GREATEST episode??

[identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I kind of understand why they cut this line. People heads were exploding just over the look Castiel gave Dean at the end of the episode. Can you imagine if he'd come out and said this?

[identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, he's talking to present-day Dean but he must be talking about Future Dean, right?

Oh, it's so good.

[identity profile] ava-jamison.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
MMmmHmm. I know, right? It makes me so happy.

[identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-17 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
it's also confirmation that Cas knew Dean was sending them to their deaths and why

And he's still going because HE LOVES DEAN SO VERY, VERY MUCH ASF%GDTU)O)UTGGAAAAAAAAAK

I'm sorry but I'm still mourning the fact that they didn't use this episode as the springboard for Season 6, instead of letting Kripke write his whole stupid non-apocalypse and then turning the reins over to Sera Gamble. What a waste.

[identity profile] ava-jamison.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
It's only natural to mourn. Especially after this production draft!

I read this and had to go take care of something routine... so I'm watering--not rocket science--and I managed to screw up like five things: turn the water off when I still needed it on, put down a watering can in a weird place and be baffled by the hose switchline all because I was totally thinking about more eps based on 5.04.

I think this proves I'd be a dizzy mess of uselessness because of joy, but wow. They can go back in time to alternate realities. Go forward again guys!

I comfort myself with the fact that we get even more proof that Castiel does indeed love Dean very, very much. Not that we needed it, but it is nice. And that level of love.

Dude, you can't fool me any loner. Just admit that you're Ben Edlund. LOL!

[identity profile] mangokulfi.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
er that should be longer, not loner.

Yes, yes, and YES! Not only do I believe that Misha is a Dean!girl and a Jensen!girl, but I think he's also a pretty firm believer in the "profound bond", long before Edlund (again, it's Edlund) even specified it. Apparently one of the responses he gave at the recent Barcelona con to a question about where he wants Cas's story to go next year was something about wanting to cry in Dean's lap, or something like that. Oh yeah, he gets it. He's down with it. Hee!

"The End"...a great episode? Or THE GREATEST episode??

With that line, I'm going with GREATEST! ;D

You've found me out. Isn't it pathetic that I've had to resort to writing Dean/Cas fanfic because my idiot "boss" won't let me write it for the show?

[identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
something about wanting to cry in Dean's lap

YES PLEASE.

With that line, I'm going with GREATEST!

It is the greatest. Hands down.

Two words: Spin Off!

It's too late. That ship has sailed. Sera Gamble's off on her cowboy kick.

I comfort myself with the fact that we get even more proof that Castiel does indeed love Dean very, very much.

I think it's almost unbelievable just how canonical that love is. So it's not like we're all out here making something up from thin air.

If only I can get Ackles to come along...

I think she was on a Campbell kick, too. Hmm. Or there could be as much cowboy as there was noir. (I do think there was some noir, and I liked what I saw because I enjoy noir, BUT...)

I hear you on the canonical. So it's not like we're all out here making something up from thin air.

That's what's so great about it. We're not!

It's such lovely characterization continuity to see that same devotion shown again in "King", but this time, also from Dean's side. Since in Edlund's mind, 2014Cas had actually confessed his love and loyalty in such a profound (heh) way to pastDean, Dean's refusal to believe that Cas would betray him is put into an even more heartbreaking context.

Gads, I can't believe those idiots are even considering killing off such an amazing character and/or ruining what is, imo, the most layered, rich relationship on the show. Just because they screwed the pooch for a lot of us in how they brutally amputated the brotherly bond and then slapped a bandaid on the stump doesn't mean that now every other relationship should be thrown under the bus.

OMG...blubber!!!

What I love is that this is in Edlund's head. I mean who knows, maybe it's just fanservice but...this is the stuff that we don't see. It's no wonder Misha played Cas the way he did in that episode. He's got the inside scoop on how Cas loves Dean so very, very much.

I still think that Castiel's popularity, and the development of this "layered, rich relationship" took them completely off guard (all except Ben Edlund, apparently). It did supplant the relationship between Sam and Dean and they helped that come about by destroying the brothers' bond in the first place. Now, three years later, they're suddenly waking up to this and they've decided to fix it by getting rid of Castiel. And boy, are they barking up the wrong tree. Taking Castiel out if the picture sure isn't going to make me like Sam any more, or make me suddenly believe in any sort of caring relationship between him and Dean.

This so much.

But look at the writers pattern. They never really bothered to write Sam as anything but a series of superficial TV tropes and when he didn't fly as high as they expected, instead of writing him with more depth, they started to underwrite Dean instead of improving Sam.

[identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com 2011-06-18 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Bingo. And now they're going to hit delete on Castiel and hope that we all forget about him and focus on Sam? Fuck that. I'll be out here capslocking DEAN/CAS 4EVAH until I turn blue.

"Taking Castiel out if the picture sure isn't going to make me like Sam any more, or make me suddenly believe in any sort of caring relationship between him and Dean."

Exactly! If they had any sense, they'd look at WHY so many fans are responding to the Dean/Cas relationship while staying ambivalent about the brothers.

I know that, for me, it's like the writers are having Sam say the "right" things this season but it just rings hollow. It feels as if there are these sudden realizations in the writers' room of, "Oh! Time for Sam to be a good brother!", instead of having those moments play out inside a solid framework of Sam being about Dean. Like how Sam's line in the finale about not wanting to leave Dean was nicely PC but when it came to how Sam had treated Dean, letting his brother get turned into a monster took a back seat to what roboSam did to some random Ruby lookalike chick. Or how the Impala and a plastic toy soldier got through to Samifer, not Dean's pleading voice or the fact that he'd just turned Dean's face into hamburger meat. Or how Sam was so sorry about letting Lucifer out but not about throttling, mocking, and not being there for his post Hell brother. Other than paying lip service, Sam just doesn't seem to be about Dean in a consistent way. Unlike how Cas' deep devotion and investment in Dean makes it easy for me to connect with his character, Sam's lack of insight into himself/Dean/their relationship just alienates me as a viewer. And based on Kripke and Gamble's own lack of insight, I just don't see that changing any time soon.

Sadly, now that Cas is set to either be killed off or be the brothers' nemesis, it looks as if all we'll get is the lopsided Sam is All About Sam and Dean is All About Sam dynamics. I just don't see how any of this is going to be a creative win on any front.

Maybe you could bribe him by making it a musical. What? Jensen LIKES to sing. *EG*
