That's just how Castiel rolls. A production draft from 'The End.'
Good God, can you believe this was supposed to be in the script? Is this for real?
Who is Castiel supposed to be talking to in this scene? Himself?

Date: 2011-06-17 11:18 pm (UTC)And not only is it slashy as hell, but it's also confirmation that Cas knew Dean was sending them to their deaths and why, which I think is pretty freaking crucial.
More proof positive that Ben Edlund is a Dean/Cas slasher. Gotta love him. ;D

Date: 2011-06-17 11:33 pm (UTC)I'm sorry, but I can't believe I ever wrote the whole All Saints series without even knowing about this snippet. Because this is exactly how I felt about Future!Castiel's unswerving devotion to Dean. It just goes to show how much Misha was able to convey in that episode, even without having to spell it out in so many words.
Ahh, "The End"...a great episode? Or THE GREATEST episode??

Date: 2011-06-18 01:58 am (UTC)Yes, yes, and YES! Not only do I believe that Misha is a Dean!girl and a Jensen!girl, but I think he's also a pretty firm believer in the "profound bond", long before Edlund (again, it's Edlund) even specified it. Apparently one of the responses he gave at the recent Barcelona con to a question about where he wants Cas's story to go next year was something about wanting to cry in Dean's lap, or something like that. Oh yeah, he gets it. He's down with it. Hee!

With that line, I'm going with GREATEST! ;D

Date: 2011-06-18 02:12 am (UTC)Gads, I can't believe those idiots are even considering killing off such an amazing character and/or ruining what is, imo, the most layered, rich relationship on the show. Just because they screwed the pooch for a lot of us in how they brutally amputated the brotherly bond and then slapped a bandaid on the stump doesn't mean that now every other relationship should be thrown under the bus.

What I love is that this is in Edlund's head. I mean who knows, maybe it's just fanservice but...this is the stuff that we don't see. It's no wonder Misha played Cas the way he did in that episode. He's got the inside scoop on how Cas loves Dean so very, very much.

I still think that Castiel's popularity, and the development of this "layered, rich relationship" took them completely off guard (all except Ben Edlund, apparently). It did supplant the relationship between Sam and Dean and they helped that come about by destroying the brothers' bond in the first place. Now, three years later, they're suddenly waking up to this and they've decided to fix it by getting rid of Castiel. And boy, are they barking up the wrong tree. Taking Castiel out if the picture sure isn't going to make me like Sam any more, or make me suddenly believe in any sort of caring relationship between him and Dean.

Date: 2011-06-18 03:57 am (UTC)Exactly! If they had any sense, they'd look at WHY so many fans are responding to the Dean/Cas relationship while staying ambivalent about the brothers.
I know that, for me, it's like the writers are having Sam say the "right" things this season but it just rings hollow. It feels as if there are these sudden realizations in the writers' room of, "Oh! Time for Sam to be a good brother!", instead of having those moments play out inside a solid framework of Sam being about Dean. Like how Sam's line in the finale about not wanting to leave Dean was nicely PC but when it came to how Sam had treated Dean, letting his brother get turned into a monster took a back seat to what roboSam did to some random Ruby lookalike chick. Or how the Impala and a plastic toy soldier got through to Samifer, not Dean's pleading voice or the fact that he'd just turned Dean's face into hamburger meat. Or how Sam was so sorry about letting Lucifer out but not about throttling, mocking, and not being there for his post Hell brother. Other than paying lip service, Sam just doesn't seem to be about Dean in a consistent way. Unlike how Cas' deep devotion and investment in Dean makes it easy for me to connect with his character, Sam's lack of insight into himself/Dean/their relationship just alienates me as a viewer. And based on Kripke and Gamble's own lack of insight, I just don't see that changing any time soon.
Sadly, now that Cas is set to either be killed off or be the brothers' nemesis, it looks as if all we'll get is the lopsided Sam is All About Sam and Dean is All About Sam dynamics. I just don't see how any of this is going to be a creative win on any front.

Date: 2011-06-18 02:31 am (UTC)This so much.
But look at the writers pattern. They never really bothered to write Sam as anything but a series of superficial TV tropes and when he didn't fly as high as they expected, instead of writing him with more depth, they started to underwrite Dean instead of improving Sam.

Is it wrong that that I buy this/feel this more than Sam's line about not leaving his brother alone in the finale?
