Is it wrong that that I buy this/feel this more than Sam's line about not leaving his brother alone in the finale?

No, it's not wrong!! It's the only possible reaction!

It gets even better when you imagine Misha actually speaking these lines in character!!

This reveal reminds me of that famous line from Tolkien's unpublished LoTR epilogue, where Sam's daughter tells him that she knows Frodo was his "treasure" and everyone who reads that goes, "NOW IT'S CANON!!"
