My Weekend
Jul. 4th, 2011 10:44 pmI spent the weekend at
baylorsr's house, enjoying deep, insightful conversations on a wide variety of topics including Jensen Ackles's beauty, the epic love of Dean and Castiel, Misha Collins's overall greatness, the disastrous potential of SPN S7, and why Dark Angel sucked in spite of Jensen's lovely face. Then we barbecued and ate pie and watched Jensen get tortured on Smallville. This morning we sampled the culinary delights of Denny's and streamed Under the Red Hood so we could listen to Jensen's mellifluously sexy voice. An intellectually stimulating weekend indeed!
All this intellectual stimulation resulted in a lengthy dream last night that revolved around Jensen and Danneel becoming the focus of an international brouhaha involving some sort of grave insult to Will and Kate. In my dream, the New York Post ran one of their howling two-page spreads about it, which, if you're familiar with the hysteria of the Post's editorial style, you can easily imagine. The real kicker of this dream was that the Post reported that due to the incident, Jensen and Danneel had gotten kicked off the feature-film adaptation of I Dream of Jeannie in which they had been cast to play Major Nelson and Jeannie respectively. All I could think was how grateful I was that these two had gotten themselves involved in a crazy diplomatic scandal so that I'd never, ever, ever have to see Jensen destroying his career and all my good memories of him as Dean Winchester with such a mortifying project. Although I am willing to admit he would have looked terrifically dashing in the uniform.
Just out of curiosity, I checked IMDB and was not surprised to find out there actually is a feature film of I Dream of Jeannie currently in pre-production. There is no cast list yet. As far as I know, no one on SPN is involved with this film. Whew. But now I totally have that theme music stuck in my head.

Date: 2011-07-05 04:19 am (UTC)Nice to know I'm not the only one who owns the fourth season of Smallville just for Jensen (of course I stare at Tom and Michael, too) or play Under the Red Hood with my eyes shut.
I'm sure there will be better opportunities for Jensen to don a military uniform for a role. I like the Marine service dress, myself.
(P.S. Sorry for previous deletion. Made a stupid error I had to correct.)

Date: 2011-07-05 11:22 am (UTC)LOL, I wouldn't worry about it. They tend to stock those ancient-TV reboots with box office names like Nicole Kidman or Ben Stiller. I think that's supposed to be part of the joke. Besides, I can't imagine any scenario in which they'd cast a woman in her thirties to play Jeannie.
Under the Red Hood with my eyes shut.
Isn't it funny how different his voice is from Dean's? I mean, you can certainly tell it's him, but it's just that little bit lighter and softer. I really like it.

Dear God, I would hope so!!

Date: 2011-07-06 03:08 am (UTC)You've reminded me of a journal entry from a friend of mine who saw Jensen on stage in A Few Good Men, and she also credited Jensen’s acting in terms of how different LTJG Kaffee was from Dean. It’s funny how you may never realize how much an actor is putting into a certain performance until you see them play someone else. While I believe that playing Dean comes naturally to him at this point, Jensen is definitely not just ‘playing himself.’
It also takes some serious talent (and balls) to act live on a stage, I think.
That journal entry, BTW, in case you're curious:

Pretty and talented - all too rare a combination in the acting industry.

Date: 2011-07-06 10:38 pm (UTC)I agree about Jensen and Dean. When you see Dean as "himself" it's really remarkable how much effort he's put into not just playing Dean, but creating him. Some actors always just seem to be playing themselves -- I think Julia Roberts, for example, gives the same performance in every role. But Jensen is one of those actors who can really inhabit each character differently. All the more remarkable because he's so damn gorgeous. It would be so easy for him to just let his looks do the work.
