Except for Dean hyperventilating over his car, and seeing the boys in tuxes, I am so hating this episode.

I'm sick to death of Bela and her accent and her lack of chemistry with either one of them. I'm sick of her smugness and being smarter than the Winchesters and Winchesters playing second fiddle. I'm sick of the complete absence of rock n' roll, the loss of the "Americana" feel, the cheesy motel rooms. I'm sick of not seeing Dean getting his weekly beautiful thrashing. It's 9:35. Why isn't Dean bleeding?

And why the fuck does this show keep repeating itself? First we had identical Sam-Ruby shouting matches twice in the course of two weeks, now we get an almost word-for-word replay of Bela's unconvincing "vengeance" speech. Were the striking writers already on work slowdown when they wrote these episodes?

It's only 9:40 and I've totally lost the gist of this episode. I simply could not care less, and I can't believe there are 10 more episodes of Bela to sit through. I'm getting a little happy that the writers are on strike.

Oh lord, Bela's seeing "the ghost ship." If only she would drown. But we all know Dean's going to save her. Blah blah blah blah blah. Should we start the countdown to sex now? How many episodes do you think are left before they finally get their freak on and spare us this intensely dull sexual "tension?"

Uh-oh, Bela's secretly haunted by a family tragedy. Poor girl. Do we care? I don't. I'm here for Winchesters. WINCHESTERS. Remember them?

Dean looks hot with that shotgun on his shoulder. But Dean looking hot cannot save this dismal episode.

Drown, Bela. Drown, drown, drown.

Dean got slammed into a headstone. Too little, too late, show.

Dean's saving Bela. Well, Sam, technically. But it's Dean who's holding the poor haunted girl...quelle surprise.

It's been a dreadful week and this was the last thing I needed to see. I need a smoke. They shoulda make this like The Fog. Now that was scary.

Buh, ten minutes left. Now Bela will be humbled and repentant...yes? Dean will be compassionate...n'est-ce pas? Let's see! I can hardly wait!

OK, I was wrong. Bela still smug and smarter than Winchesters. Dreadful. Surpisingly, no better than humble repentance. Ugh, obligatory Dean/Bela bonding moment. I think I just threw up in my mouth a little. Random English chick does not get to psychoanalize Dean Winchester. Countdown to sex...on!!

Ouch, Dean ignores his brother's pain. That kinda got to me. Dean, Dean, Dean. Baby.

Winchesters. More of that, please.

Dear Eric Kripke,
Please let fanficcers write this stuff. They'll do it better.
Best,
Oselle

Yes, yes, and yes. God I can't stand that smug, smarmy little bitch. They're not focusing on the show's real strength by bringing in these irritating, non-dimensional characters, and they're not going to make me like Bela or Ruby, no matter what they do.

Each appearance of Ruby made me accept her a little more. Mostly I'm just digging on her as an antidote to Bela. This episode was painful to watch in so many ways. I have no idea what the producers are doing here. Is there some artistic benefit in making your protagonists look like complete idiots? Bela's a dreadful, cliched character and has zero chemistry, even opposite Jensen Ackles, who managed to have chemistry with the wooden Jessica Alba and a dog-faced boy. I actually need to watch Dark Angel now to scrub my brain of this. Possibly one of the worst episodes of the entire series. Painful, painful, painful.

I can't use the Edit function cuz I use this site FOR FREE, SUCKAHS!!

If you haven't watched SPN in a year, you sure picked a lousy time to come back. Bela is one of two new female characters who have been introduced at the network's request. Ruby is the other one, and she at least makes some sense (she's a demon, or fallen angel or some shit -- at least she fits the show's mythology). Bela's some kind of Bondgirl wannabe. Jesus, they even used quasi-Bond music in this one. Remember when they used to play Kansas and Ozzy and Boston and other cool shit?

Bela's "angry sex" line was just part of the big Countdown to Sex that we're gonna have to endure for the rest of the season. Yay, writer's strike. Maybe they'll use their time off to get their shit together and save the last half of the season.

Yeah I noticed that this wasn't exactly an Emmy-winner... and the main reason I started with SPN last year is per my stepdad's request that I watch "this new cool scifi/horror/drama show with kickass music in it" (AND THE OBVIOUS JENSEN HOTNESSkthx). Sad when the only Kansas fix I got this week was on SOUTH PARK.

So yeah, Bela is teh sux0r. She's totally flat. She and Dean couldn't have less chemistry if they were in two different tv shows.

Jensen is always going to be hot but now that I've had a chance to see him in some other shows, I feel like SPN is wasting him, at least in this season. He was stuck here in a supporting role, playing the straight man to a lame character who is completely out of place in the entire series. If Jensen Ackles managed to totally rock dreadful fare like Dark Angel (in which he was just a supporting character), why won't they give him more to do in a show in which he is one of the stars?

I was debating whether to come straight home tonight to download the episode, or to swing by the supermarket first to do the weekly shop. I think you just made my mind up... and the shopping won.

Smart choice. You know how bad this was? It'll make even you pine for Jo Harvelle. I'm pining for Jo right now.

There have been several great female guest stars on this show that I would have LOVED to see more often. Why this character? The actress is very pretty, and that's a plus, but it's impossible to judge her in a part so badly written and so out of keeping with the rest of the show. What happened to the female hunter from 3.01? Why can't we see more of her?

Why this character?

I don't know. She seems like something cooked up by a 12-year-old fanfic writer with a cursory knowledge of Bond films and Alias episodes. Just a mish-mash of cliches, "clever" comebacks and couture. And maybe that's the point. She seems tailored to appeal to younger viewers who don't realize that there's nothing fresh or unique about this sort of character.

Even if she were fresh and unique, she doesn't belong in this show. There's nothing wrong with introducing new characters but they need to mesh with the existing universe. Bela's very presence all but demands the absence of the very qualities that I loved about the show -- the nostalgia and "Americana" that you talked about in your post a little while ago. It's as if the producers felt those aspects of the show weren't working and felt the need to glitz it up. Evening wear! Charity balls! Bleh.

The capper was Sam's line at the end that "she's got style." You want to explain that to me? If someone ripped me off, left me and my brother for dead, shot me, had my car towed and then ripped me off again, I wouldn't be fawning over her "style" just because she was pretty and threw a few bucks at me for my trouble. But this isn't what "Sam" would really think. This is what the producers think and want us to think, and that pisses me off. Ever heard of show, don't tell? Sam can tell me about her "style" till he's blue in the face, but I'm not buying it and can't believe that Sam or Dean would buy it either.

What it all comes down to, I think, is one big setup for her to get in the sack with Dean, whether the sex is "angry" or not. We're supposed to accept this annoying, out-of-place, disruptive and incredibly boring character because she's eventually going to be Dean's love interest. That pisses me off, too. It makes me feel like the producers think the viewers are that sappy and easily bought and I know I'm not.

Why can't we see more of her?

Probably considered too "old" to be a love interest, and let's face it, that's what Bela's primary function is going to be. As if we cared.

I waited all day to download this and I'm now 27 mins in and... checking my friends list. Bloody hell, Bela is boring. Mr Kripke, I'm English. We don't talk like that. Why does she talk so bloody slow?

Kill her now. Please, please, please drop a ghost on her head, let her get run over - better still, get Dean to run her over. Just put us all out of our misery.

The worst thing about Bella? She makes the show boring.

They lost me halfway through. Bela kept popping up in just about every scene and boring me stupid. How could I even focus on the ghost story when I was supposed to be paying attention to how cute Bela and Dean were being together. Which, by the way, they were not.

I'm glad the writers are on strike. Maybe they'll have some time to reconsider the direction of the show for the latter half of the season. I know I don't have any interest in sitting through another episode like last night's.

They clearly listen to the fans, I wonder what the general view of the episode and Bela is? I thought it would be universal, a foregone conclusion. But no, some people actually seem to like her.

Considering some of the loudest fans seem to think Dean is an ignorant, hateful, hypocritical bigot who's desperately in need of some sensitivity training, I don't know how much I want the producers to listen to the fans.

That said, I'm pretty sure the pro-Bela fans are in the minority. You can't just dump a brand-new character into a show that's been around for three years, especially when that character is so different from what the show's been about up until now. I can see myself liking this character if she turned up in another show or was the star of her own show, but I just have no idea what a sophisticated, globe-trotting cat burglar is doing in Supernatural. On top of this weirdness, we have the PAINFULLY obvious fact that she's being set up to be a love, or at least, sex interest for Dean, which leads to all this dreadful cutesy-angry "sparring" between the two of them. The classy dame and the rough-and-tumble lunkhead -- what an odd couple! How delightfully precious! This sort of thing was real fun when Moonlighting did it 20 years ago, but I don't really have any desire to see elements of a frothy caper comedy on a show that's heretofore been firmly rooted in gritty, backroads Americana.

So yeah, Bela as a character on another show wouldn't be so bad. Characters like Dean and Bela pairing up on another show...also not bad. But not here. If I'd been bored with what Supernatural was, I'd say bring on the changes. But I wasn't bored. I liked that show, the one I fell in love with over the summer. Call it good or bad, but whatever the heck I watched (or sort-of watched) on Thursday night just wasn't that show.

That's why I can hardly care about Bela at all. Her name doesn't make it to my post.

How can I forget the panic attack? :D

I enjoyed the panic attack. Poor Dean. I also felt so sorry for him when that guy called his car "crappy." The Impala??? CRAPPY!?!? The Impala's many things, but crappy ain't one of them.
