Hurricane Gustav is bearing down on New Orleans and the Gulf Coast just in time for the Republican convention and so the Republicans are planning to turn it into a public relations stunt.

For God's sake, America. Don't fall for this.

Oselle, if you haven't yet read Naomi Klein's "The Shock Doctrine", please go out and find yourself a copy. As bad as you know the current administration to be, this will cement your feelings about it, the IMF, the World Bank, the CIA, and the Friedmanites that dip their fingers into every foreign country they can.

If I could afford to buy 1000 copies and mail them to friends, and friends of friends, and donate them to libraries, I would.

I haven't read it but it was heavily excerpted on a number of the blogs I read, which also featured many interviews with Klein. If you haven't seen it yet, this short film (http://www.naomiklein.org/shock-doctrine/short-film) by Alfonso Cuaron provides a really good overview of what "shock doctrine" means. The shock doctrine is something we've all seen in action and is terrifying in its simplicity and effectiveness.
