Seriously, I have been thinking about this picture since I saw it yesterday. Does anyone know when/where this was taken? It looks like it's from a con a few years ago but the con appearances sort of blur together for me.
I see pictures like this and I understand why there's such a disproportionate number of fics in this fandom where Jared is safeguarding or rescuing or just generally taking care of Jensen. You know, at first I thought it was just the height thing that people were picking up on. But Jared really does have this way of looking at Jensen that's very caring, that's almost...protective.

Date: 2009-07-01 11:52 pm (UTC)Yes, I think it all comes down to the looming. Jared is basically so tall that he winds up looking like anyone's bodyguard. It doesn't help that there's something so vulnerable-seeming about Jensen. I don't know if it's because he's so pretty or because he always looks so uncomfortable at these functions but Jared's just like his seven-foot life preserver.
I don't recognize that moving-out thing as fact in my universe, thank you.

Date: 2009-07-02 02:25 am (UTC)I am so far inside the fanon of Jared's protectiveness that when I read that Jensen had said he moved in to help support Jared after he broke up with Sandy, I kept thinking, 'but wait, Jensen, you're the vulnerable one!'
It must come from all the looking, and Jared's looming, but also from Jensen's weird and enchanting vibe of being both totally, jock-ishly healthy and shy and emotionally vulnerable at the same time...
You see him come apart on screen, and you think it must come from somewhere, but it probably doesn't. It's probably some quirky facility, like learning languages easily, or being able to do an effortless headstand.

I often think that Jensen is probably the most normal, down-to-earth, dullest guy you could meet. I mean, we're talking a 31-year-old man who spends his free time at golf tournaments, wearing argyle sweaters...Kurt Cobain he ain't. But that's exactly what makes him so appealing in his endearingly bashful, argylish way. Well, that and his stupefying good looks.

Really? I'd always thought this was J2 fanon that became enshrined as gospel truth. I can't imagine that Jensen would actually say such a thing -- Jared I can see running his mouth but this seems like the sort of private thing that Jensen just wouldn't talk about. I don't think Jensen ever said anything about why he moved in with Jared, did he? Or wasn't there some thing about Jensen's lease being up or...did I make that up?

I must have read at least four, including the one about the lease. So--who knows? But, the "support Jared" theory comes from here I'm sure I read a con report of Jensen actually saying this in his Asylum '09 coffee lounge, but can't find it again right now... Some day, there'll be dissertations written--

I totally find Jensen more physically attractive but in the long run I prefer a guy who's fun and animated and who can talk a blue streak.
