1) Could anything possibly be hotter than post-apocalyptic Dean?

1a) Wouldn't it have been even hotter if post-apocalyptic Dean had been a little battle scarred? Like, perfect, photogenic really hot scars?

2) Did Zachariah honestly think that little performance was going to make Dean say yes to Michael instead of immediately getting Sam on the phone?

2a) Has Zachariah put ANY effort at all into figuring out Dean, as important as Dean is?

2b) Does Zachariah have a boss? Because if so, when is his boss going to realize that Zach really, really sucks at his job?

3) Pill-popping, fatalistic, disillusioned Castiel -- did you find him as unexpectedly poignant as I did? "I used to belong to a much better club." Oh, Cas!

4) How much does Castiel -- present or future -- love Dean? I mean really, is he not wholly, truly besotted with him? Did you SEE that little smile on Cas's face when he told Dean, "We had an appointment?" Like he'd been standing there for four hours just counting the minutes until he could see Dean again?

5) How great is Misha Collins?

6) If you're familiar with Dark Angel Season Two, did you also think that post-apocalyptic Kansas City looked suspiciously like Terminal City?

6a) Again, if you know Dark Angel, were you also getting Ben & Alec flashbacks? Like, totally hot Ben & Alec 10 years later and no annoying Max or Logan?

6b) Did you at any point think, "Wow, this is what Dark Angel would have been like if it hadn't sucked?!"

7) "President Palin" -- funnier than President Cheney, but nowhere near as scary?

8) Is anyone besides me kind of on board with Lucifer's agenda? Personally I'm kind of rooting for the guy now.

9) The inevitable Sam-Dean reunion...schmaltz-lite and yet so deliciously satisfying?

10) Was Sam driving an Oldsmobile Delta 88?

EXTRA CREDIT QUESTION: A great episode...or THE GREATEST episode?

Your awesomeness is off the charts!!!! I SO totally agree with everything you said, esp with regard to Castiel and his utter devotion to his Dean.

GREAT ep - but none will ever surpass Faith in my little corner of the galaxy.

Cheers!

Faith will probably always be one of the great, classic episodes of this series. But this ep just pushed ALL MY BUTTONS in the best kind of way.

I thought of you while watching this ep - because Dean was extra pretty and there were TWO OF HIM.

TWO. HOT. DEANS.

I'm having a hard time with your questions because I just keep coming back to

TWO. HOT. DEANS.

And they fight each other - how hot was that?

OK OK there were other people in the ep besides the T.H.D.s

So yes, post-apoca-Castiel was poignant - surprisingly so. It was clear he was so very unhappy and lost. No Brethren. No God. No Hope. But he brightened up ever so slightly to see Past!Dean again. Oh Cas!

MISHA COLLINS is awesome. And Castiel is totally bound to Dean. And I love watching them together.

...together...

Two Deans...together...in the same room...being all hot and....

I think I need to watch it again!

You know what was REALLY hot? When HotDean 2014 told HotDean 2009 that he'd given him "the full workup while he was out." WHILE HE WAS OUT!?! I mean just picture that. Picture it.

You raise good questions :-)

I don't think Zachariah is quite as dumb as we think he is. He surely knows that the surest way to NOT get Dean Winchester do what you want him to do is to order him to do it. "Say yes," he said, and Dean did, but to Sam. and who knows? Maybe that was written.

A propos nothing. Chuck got a nice tan out of the Apocalypse, if nothing else.

Loved Cas at the roadside heeding the voice in his cell phone that tells him he's running out of minutes.

Considering that Zach gave Dean stomach cancer in the season premiere to try to get him to give in to Michael, I can't really believe that Zach has been playing a reverse psychology game all this time, unless he's doing it unwittingly under manipulation by some higher power.

Has it been explained why Michael is relying on this doofus instead of paying Dean a personal visit?

Oh, Cas..."The Voice is saying I'm out of minutes!" I never thought I'd love anything on this show as much as Dean but wow...Castiel's coming pretty damn close.

You're right about Zach, of course. I allow myself to wander too far off course sometimes. And yes, I'm wondering what sort of absentee shock-and-awe failure this Michael is turning out to be.

It's nice to see Show using its actors well, isn't it? They manage to do it without, ahem, jumping the shark, too. So many shows, once they've hit their stride, start taking ridiculous liberties with the creation to give the stars something for the demos they'll soon be using to scare up the next gig. I have the feeling Misha Collins will barge his way into whatever career he wants. I'm more concerned with JA and JP. Both are certainly very talented but I'm not sure they'll ever be this deeply good again, because they're not likely to find, again, the same combination of isolation with a loyal and committed production team, or as magical a story to tell. I hope I'm wrong, because I want them to enjoy what they do forever.

Or the same chemistry that they have with each other. Then again, I really liked Jared on Gilmore Girls, and while I didn't become acquainted with Jensen's earlier work until after I became a fan (so my opinion is biased), he's pretty much been excellent in everything he's done. I mean, anyone who could liven up Dark Angel has some serious talent on display.

1. Nope. Unless its pre-apocalyptic Dean. Or Jensen Ackles.
2. Zacahariah is a smarmy idiot. And he should be fired pronto.
4. I SAW!!
5. I love him. Period.
8. I just wish that he'd stop with the "I love God" crap and say "I love ME" instead.
9. YES YES YES!!

For the extra point : The GREATEST episode, in all five seasons perhaps!

1. No
3. Yes! He was so sad. At least he still had Dean.
4 & 5. He is totally twitterpated with Dean, and Misha rules the world.
6. I read somewhere that they redressed the set from "The Watchmen" movie.
9. Liked it - though I still wish Sam would display a little more remorse. I mean, Dean cries every episode - would it kill Sam to squeeze out a few tears? ;)

The best episode so far!!

My panties were in such a bunch during that episode that they were cutting off circulation to my brain and I couldn't think straight, but yes, Sam doesn't seem very remorseful. Then again, I'm willing to accept that at this point in the story, the boys really need to be working together so we don't really have time for Sam to make a big mea culpa and also, you know, for all that Dean can be close-mouthed he's often a lot more emotionally expressive than Sam. So it's kind of in character that Sam wouldn't be too much with the remorse displaying and OMG POST APOCALYPTIC DEAN! I'm freaking twitterpated over that...STILL!

It's really amazing that the whole Dean/Castiel relationship has happened the way it did. Talk about unexpected lightning striking. The whole ep was kind of about refocusing on what's important, with Dean at the center. He called Sam back and really doesn't want to lose him. And he got Cas back because he doesn't want to lose him either. I love how Dean feels responsible for Castiel, almost in his big brother way, but ultimately he's not his big brother and doesn't have to feel responsible (which for Dean is a very good thing).

And I totally took Castiel as Zachariah's little revenge fanfic version, with him being all obsessed with human vices and wishing he was still in his "better club." Yet as with everything else it backfired and Castiel came out as terribly poignant--no wonder he likes past!Dean, he reminds him of his bff when they first met.

And I really don't think Zachariah has ever met Dean. He always gets him wrong. Because he looks down on humans too much to see how he's awesome.

Oh DEAN!!

Zachariah's little revenge fanfic version

Did you also feel like the whole thing was something Zach conjured up? Dean 2014's speech to Dean 2009 about how "if he had it to do all over again" he'd say yes to Michael -- that sounded like Zach to me, not Dean at all. Because the real Dean would do exactly what Dean DID do -- call Sam.

I took the whole thing as a creation of Zach's. It just had these glaring moments that seemed fake, especially Dean randomly talking about how IF ONLY HE'D SAID YES TO MICHAEL. Especially since the angels just left. And we're supposed to accept that Dean would look at these guys that ran away and think yeah, he should have gone with them?

Date: 2009-10-08 12:00 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com
Well, presumably if Dean had said yes to Michael the angels wouldn't have run away but I agree, that whole little speech sounded like Zach's propaganda in Dean's voice and once again, demonstrated Zach's remarkable lack of understanding of Dean or humans in general.

It was definitely one of my favorite episodes. Misha has a beautiful smile, and it was nice to get to see it. Two Deans, twice as beautiful. Sam pulled at my heart as Lucifer. As for Zachariah, he's so arrogant, I don't think he can conceive of a mere human actually defying him.

From: [identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com
I just thoroughly enjoy Misha's performance no matter what he's doing and I very rarely feel that way about supporting characters. I don't want them to start overusing him, but right now I'm totally digging the guy.

1a) I was totally expecting future Dean to have a photogenically placed scar. Possibly something high on the cheekbone, like the one Arwen got in the celluloid version of the flight to the ford.

From: [identity profile] oselle.livejournal.com
Yes, or something like a really cool and pretty scar on his mouth or his chin. Jensen already has a scar on his chin it would have been so cool if they'd just emphasized that. What a missed opportunity!

I've finally seen the whole episode, and can answer your questions!

1) No. Because, aside from everything else, there was the thigh holster. Thigh. Holster. *thud*

1a) Now that you mention it, yeah. On his face and torso. Which he would have for some necessary plot point had to remove his shirt so we could see.

4) Soooo much. The look o' love there...again with the *thud*

Extra credit: Well...I'm always going to love "Devil's Trap" and BUaBS, because I'm a sucker for family (demonic) melodrama like that, but this one was pretty damn awesome. For all the fabulous chemistry between the Js, it's interesting that some of the best eps lately have Dean on his own (In the Beginning, the first part of Lazarus Rising, now this one)--maybe they push JA out of his comfort zone a bit, with excellent results.

In conclusion: *happy smile*
