LOL...a comment from [livejournal.com profile] roque_clasique got me thinking about what Season 6 would be like if I were showrunner.

Well lemme tell ya.

Never been a big fan of the MoTWs so that's right out the ol' winder. There are only so many variations on ghosts, mythical creatures and pop-culture Judeo-Christianity and SPN has already covered most of them. Plus they've already ripped off so much from Neil Gaiman that the well's pretty dry there too.

I figure it's the last season so why not go nuts and treat it like a miniseries with 22 episodes. Just one long storyarc, that's what I like. Lost has been doing it for seven years, surely SPN can do it for one. I like journey-related stories so there'll be lots of traveling. One-shot characters that are interesting but never quirky. I hate quirky. Fuck that shit. What else do I like. Oh...I like Dean getting beaten up. So he'll get beaten up. A lot. Hmm, I also like post-apocalyptic stories...

Shit, you know what? I'd just jump the whole thing forward to 2014 Endverse and let 'er roll. 22 blazing eps of Dean, Castiel and Antichrist Sam. End the fuckin thing the way they ended The Road Warrior -- fire, smoke and "that was the last we ever saw of him."

Yes.

Well, I'd hope the Joss Whedon influence would end there. YMMV, but not a very big fan of the Joss.

I have to cut Joss a little slack; he had very little budget and very little time to make Buffy. When he did spend time on an episode it was spectacular. But about 1/2 through Buffy Season 3 the whole thing kinda went down.

I've just never been able to get into any of Whedon's stuff. Buffy and Angel never held my interest and I totally didn't get the fuss about Firefly. Dollhouse was just a big bleh for me from the get-go. There are elements of his style that I see echoed in Supernatural that are usually the things I like least about the show. I was a huge fan of The X-Files and preferred Chris Carter's more serious approach to what could have been a very silly concept -- I've felt like Supernatural is at its best when it leans more towards Carter than Whedon.
